Huh I've never looked into Usenets. Any good learning resources on that? But also, your right about DVDs. I think early seasons of Pokemon are hard to find in physical media these days.

Hot dog, I just looked it up. So you set up Sonarr and tell it I want "Pokemon" and it just pulls torrents for the show from feeds it knows?

Now the obvious question I have is, how do I avoid my ISP from freaking out? Is it just as simple as putting it behind say, NordVPN?

I saw a sight that showed you a network web but I can't remember what it was called... I'll try and find it again.

It does give you authentication security in that, you should only have an issue if your instance is down. If the instance your account is tied to goes up and down then your ability to access your subscriptions and participate are also up and down.

I wish the identity stuff and authentication was separated from instances, but unfortunately it isn't.

My friend, you are always going to be ideologically out numbered. If the libs want to call you names, that only shows their ignorance. Walking away ensures what you're talking about actually happens. It's not your job to educate people if they do not want to hear it, however, disengaging only ensures those spaces become hostile to your beliefs. Systems like these only have value at scale, and with that scale comes individuals who do not share your world view. Alienation starts at home, we we decide to no longer engage. Just take solace in knowing this space here, is for you first.

I saw someone comment, in an almost gleeful manner "I didn't even know of the word Tankie until today!" like a kid who just learned about the word "Fuck". 🙄

The regularity in which I have this exact conversation with my local friends group is exhausting. Admittedly, its only one out of the few, but they are by far the loudest. The same nonsense about "changes to movies" because they want to also be released in China. "Can't say anything because CHINA has MONEY and the entertainment corporations want their money!!"

You're going to have to have thicker skin then that comrade.

Registration on Lemmy.ml is no longer open I think. Lemmy.world is leading the pack for active users (or close to it). Regardless, why would the admins of lemmygrad and hexbear not enforce their own rules on the normies?

I would also contribute.

I think if the instance is down it won't show. There are other conditions too, like if new registrations are open.
