That makes me feel better about this weekend, thanks! Yesterday I was the patient one, we had some success. Today I was not the patient one and we had catastrophic failure. Definitely was feeling guilty. But they bounced back after we decided to pause and was clearly trying to cheer me up. It was sweet. We also have a 1mo, which only compounds the stress ๐ .
I've never looked into it but does the subreddit simulator guy from reddit open source his code / model? That might be an interesting way to populate an instance and test stuff.
Potty training, unsuccessfully. I think we've concluded the kiddo needs more time before jumping in. I've never experienced stress on the levels of a walking talking pee bomb before. I've been on high alert all weekend, and had to call in some backup today. It leaves you exposed.
Whoever you think you are, wait until a toddler is marching around the house with no sense of reason, no diaper (instead, undies), and no bladder control. You'll know just how easy you'll crack under pressure.

You really do sacrifice a large portion of your identity for the sake of your kids. But I can't wait until they are able to enjoy the things we enjoy. Until then I am but a humbled Sheppard, working on enjoying the things they currently enjoy.

I build and maintain networks for a living, so I know what the network operators do and do not have access to.
As a user of any network, you should be walking around under the assumption that every network is hostile.
Regardless, my point still stands. You should have no expectation of privacy when you don't control the system your using. Especially these self hosted federated systems. Let alone a public webform where your sharing your thoughts and ideas and other PII.
- Don't use repeat usernames across services
- Don't include your full name
- Don't include your photo
- Ditch your account periodically and make a new one
- Maintain separate accounts for different interests, especially NSFW content.
If you leave a trail of breadcrumbs, you will be found.
Unless the DMs are encrypted using your own keys, your DMs are one SQL query away from being nightly reading material for any instance admin.
That's the leading privacy concern with these systems. You might think your DMs are private, but unless their encrypted, any DBA can read them. You better hope the Admins of your instance have no voyeuristic intentions.

I'm not sure what the issue is here... Did you know that your ISP has a record of every website you've ever been to on a server you don't control and they can look at it whenever they want?
Did you know you leave a record of your device on any network you join, leaving a unique ID behind that can be mapped back to you? This record is stored on severs you don't control and the operatora can view this record whenever they want?
Did you know that the admins of raddle have access to all your comments and DMs?! And they can read them at any time?!
You are really missing the forest here. I'm registered on a explicitly Marxist-Leninist instance, where I talk to like minded people. I might want to talk to them about Cats, and only them.
However, I'm subbed to a lot of other communities outside of my instance. My subs are synced with my instance and then show up in the All list on the instance for everyone to explore.
There is a instance explicitly for Starteck, startrek.website, it 3 communities. I'm subbed to their c/startrek and my instances c/startrek and both instances engage with startreks very differently.
This is the strength of Lemmy. It's more likely that over time niche instances will become the norm, where the communities within them are centered around something (a ideology, a brand, a fandom), but because it's federated everyone can connect with everyone if they wish.
Why can't you maintain two accounts exactly? Also, lemmynsfw was having issues early on in their AI porn community where some very questionable stuff was being posted, requiring an explicit age rule to be implementing.
When you sub to a remote community that content is synced to your home instance. I wouldn't touch NSFW content being federated to an instance I own either. Way to much of a liability. Especially since I would be at the mercy of the random users Im hosting.
This is a strength of Lemmy imo.
