Linux Mint (I'd recomment Debian edition, LMDE) is basically what you want to try out. I've set up a PC with it for my stepfather that hasn't used Linux at all and he's happy with it. It's designed to be as newbie-friendly as possible. You won't have more issues with it than you'll already have using Windows.

Then if you feel unsatisfied with anything about it, you can go looking for other linux distributions (distros) because you have a general idea what's happening.

I hope the internet is prepared for when VPNs will be targeted. A LOT of free access to the internet nowadays hinges on the use of VPNs and I have been dreading the day when corpos and politicians finally catch up to that fact for some years now. Remember when credit card companies removed themselves from Pornhub as a payment method after just one article from about exploiative material on the platform?

Just think about the consequences when you will only be able to subscribe to VPNs through bitcoin. I know, subscribing with your credit card isn't the smartest move in regards to privacy, but it works for a lot of stuff that isn't that dramatic (e. g. circumventing geoblocking).

I don't think we're that far away from the endgame for the free internet. Enshittification is just the first step. When that eventually doesn't work out, they will come for VPNs and stuff like the fediverse.

Yeah it's gone full-circle like the whole situation with streaming services becoming cable. Funny how the world works so similarly in different places.

It would work thousands of years off of one drop of League of Legends solo queue.

Maybe look into Garuda as an additional alternative to EndeavousOS and Manjaro. I'm using it on a gaming rog and haven't had any significant issues regarding stability.

What I don't get is the sissy sub fascists nowadays. The dumb fucks generally want to wage war with everybody and now that there are legitimate threats to their precious Vaterlands they are pacifists all of a sudden. I get it, they a funded largely by russia and china etc, but do they really think they won't get shafted when the west collapses? Absolute omega farts.

What a weirdly wonderful magazine this is.

I hope I am not the only one with this "issue", but whenever I pick up my instrument (most of the time guitar) with a specific genre or style in mind, I struggle to write just something like that.

To give a little background info: I listen mostly to blues rock, hard rock, and alternative/garage rock I'd say. But for the longest time my music leaned more towards the blues rock side; slower (e. g. 80-100 bpm), very focused on the blues scale. These days, I want to create songs more in the vein of Guns N Roses, Van Halen, Motley Crue and the like but I struggle with the general feeling of those styles.

What are your tips regarding this? When I look up some actual songs, it's just I-III-IV power chord stuff or basic pentatonic scales again. So why do my powerchords not sound like that as well? Phrasing it that way makes it sound ridiculous, but I hope you get the point. It feels like I am missing the point that distinguishes let's say sleaze rock from classic heavy metal. Maybe I'm m overthinking it but it annoys me that my writing process seems to be very trial-and-error.

What made me write this thread is that I am in the process of starting up a new rock band after a one-year hiatus.

Is it just my social bubble or are musicians especially bad at connecting digitally? I've been looking for bandmates for half a year and I am VERY happy with the mates I am with now, but the process was again tedious. In that timespan I found two drummers, one singer and two or three guitar players. The one drummer I've continued meeting with fortunately had a bass guitar player friend, phew.

Either I am too dumb to find them or there are almost no sites that connect musicians locally on a big scale. I've seen something called "Vampr" which was like Tinder but instead of fucking your fingering a minor together. Unfortunately that site was more or less dead in a 250 km radius around the area I'm in, as it just seems to be a thing in the states.

Then I tried to look for local Telegram groups that are for connecting between musicians, but those were also more or less dead.

Social networks like Reddit (rest in piss) or kbin.social do have communities around music, but they tend to have a global focus.

So do you agree that there isn't a consistent thing to connect with local musicians rather than walking around looking for jam sessions or similar stuff? I would be so happy I we musicians would be more connected through discord, kbin, mastodon, whatever. I'd love to hear your personal stories about this.

This thread might be a little ranty, but I am genuinely curious about the topic and a possible solution. Maybe I'll start a small magazine for my scene here, but god knows when this would take off.

Either I am too dumb or I would like this feature to be added. It would be cool if there would be a button where I can directly jump to the source link if I want to read the article first, after diving in the discussion or if I don't want to open the thread altogether.

I'm getting started with my new band and as a recent reddfugee I was wondering if we could set up our web presence in the Fediverse. Now where would we do this? We'd like to upload songs, share news about concerts and stuff, and post pics from recent events.

So I want to edit all my posts and comments before the API changes drop but power delete suite doesn't get all comments and forgets a lot, maybe 50%? I have unchecked all boxes about filtering out subs or gilded comments and stuff.

Here's the message I want to leave behind, in case anyone is interested:

I had a reddit and I want it painted black
No comments anymore, I want them to turn to black
I see the subs scroll by forced open by the corp
I have to turn my head until my reddit goes

Heyo, does anybody play Street Fighter 6 on the deck in here? I'm having trouble with really heaving freezes that last roughly 1-2 seconds every few minutes that won't go away when I turn down graphic settings.

It happens during arcadeode offline as well as in menus and cutscenes. The deck just stops doing anything for a short period of time the everything goes back to normal. Performance in genera would be absolutely okay so I don't know what this could be.

Can someone do an edit of the infinity war video where all the fighters enter from the portals? But only with the subs that back the reddit blackout.

It cracks me up everytime I look at reddark to see stuff like amateurcumsluts next to animalcrossing and architecture.

I've read about several tools (e. g. redacted, power delete suite) that delete all your content, so what's the best thing to use? I've also already read that reddit is bringing back deleted content (fuck you spez), so what the best way to prevent this?

Hello, quick question about the interconnection between instances in the fediverse. I now have my account here on kbin.social and I have also created an account on mastodon.social some while ago that I've reactivated now since the reddit blackout. I have read that kbin can access mastodon, so do I need a Mastodon account at all? Can I possibly log in to Mastodon through my kbin.social account and use the Mastodon interface when I feel like it?

Also another thing: would this question better fit into the threads section or is it fine here with the microblog?
