In a similar vein, one of my favorite charities is The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation:

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF) is an award-winning international charity dedicated to planting fruit, nut and medicinal trees to alleviate world hunger, combat environmental degradation, strengthen communities, and improve the surrounding air, soil, and water.

I usually cut in with a comment like, "I know a little about this because it interests me, too." Since it's a common interest, you do still have a topic to talk about.

"I used to be a hot-tar roofer. Yeah, I remember that... day." ~Mitch Hedberg

Or Oliver Hardy if they're of a certain size.

Two of his later albums were almost "Johnny Cash and the Heartbreakers." Most of Tom Petty's band is playing backup for him, and on this song you can hear Tom Petty himself singing harmony.

I like SomaFM and RadioParadise. They're free/listener supported, and both have a multiple channels and a wide selection to choose from.
