normally the shooter is added to the count and its understandableto assume that was the case. i only saw sources saying 2 detainees, and 1 source saying 1 detainee. i havent looked up more info, but i have seen one source saying 3. so either they counted the shooter or the person injured has passed.
just went to check and saw DHS is saying 1 person has died. we also see vance and noem push 'the violent left' lies.
my personal take on this is, its some rightwinger trying to get the troubles to pop off. we saw it with kirk, a rightwinger shot a rightwinger and the right was calling for the blood of everyone different than them. a rightwinger shot at trump, whether a set up or not, the right was foaming at the mouth to attack the anyone different. a rightwinger was found with a gun on his golf trip.... again calls for violence to the non rightwing. something like 97% of political violence is rightwing. they want a war and we will keep seeing all these crimes getting. blamed on everyone else, until someone fights back or they feel they are losing power.

edit2: a stripper of bullets was found, at least one had marking, 'anti ICE'. personal take based off what i am seeing on reddit. this was another far right shooter trying to stir up more rightwing violence. someone thats 'anti ICE' would attack ICE agents not the people they hold hostage. i see too many saying it was the left or it targeted ICE.

shooter has been IDed. he is registered as independent, didnt speak to family about politics or showed any opions in that regard. he was unemployed and planning to move out of state to his parents home. some sources state 1 person had died most state 2. 1 was killed on site, 2 were taken to a hospital where a 2nd passed. no ICE or other personal were injured only detainees. DHS, president and vice president are spreading false information. GOP members have joined in on blaming 'the left'.
speculation, i feel we will see links to goypers or similar rightwing groups. they have been looking to cause problems to push their own goals by inciting violence.
i think that would be trumps death. there is no named successor. he feels like a stick thats keeping the pasta water from boiling over. theres soo much infighting, theres even been physical fights. kirk might have been a possible choice. he pretended to be an intellectual MAGA, courted the extremist and gave the moderate MAGA talking points to hide behind. now due to current events, he cant be a successor.

this is my guess to as why they do their kidnappings at government buildings, jobsites, and schools. places people arent allowed to be armed. they do grab people off the streets, but as far as the news has shown, places trumps has declared 'war zones' have been cities with restrictive gun rights. cali and NY are known as places its hard to own guns. in DC i believe they are banned.
