Last night we moved the last of our stuff out of the basement....

We're hosted in a colo data center now!

Also updated to v0.18.2-rc1 to address the issues with cross site scripting that impacted lemmy.world and others last night.

Lemmit bot is off, not planning on turning that back on at this time.

Next on list:

  • Finishing up some SSO/authentication that'll make giving admin access to different server services, apps, whatever possible in a manageable way.
  • Complete paperwork/financial/tax/blahblahblah stuff

Hey everybody!

The BeyondCombustion.net server will go offline for a bit at some point tonight/this weekend so I can migrate everything to the server in the data center and make DNS changes.

Hopefully not more than a couple hours, DNS changes can be….. fun.

TheDude just doesn't know it yet, and neither does my checking account.

I'm one of the mods, have a stickied post on this with a link at the end. Just haven't made a separate official post about it yet.

BeyondCombustion.net has been our wiki, formerly at github.io, for the last few years.

Decided to point that domain at some dell R720xd/R730xd boxes I picked up and setup a whole new entry into the fediverse, along with a number of other things for our users.

Hey @TheDude@sh.itjust.works! I think we may be on the same side of the fence with a lot of this. I just got my server online, but I'm self hosting with a couple old Dell R720xds and R730xds so I've got you matched in the hardware department at least :-)

Hopefully in this for the long haul and want to help collaborate with other communities and contribute to the development as much as I'm able.

currently, I selfhost https://beyondcombustion.net and now https://lemmy.beyondcombustion.net for /r/vaporents and hopefully others. There's other stuff I self host too, this is the fun new stuff though.

my server is just me currently.... but it's got 100GB of RAM and 30CPUs so i kicked my value up to 200k but this shit (the fediverse) is still slow as hell/doesn't sync with most other servers because their specs are so low. People need to stop running them on $4 VPS shit boxes.
