You can break that view of themselves through community efforts - like gardens, allotments, etc

That's precisely what the second page mentions, as well as information on how to find a local Food Not Bombs chapter. These topics are also discussed often on Slrpnk.net, which I encourage readers to take a look at and join, in the hopes of exposing them to more in-depth discussion of those topics and people who they can talk to about it.

The people who are already open to unions are already in them.

Again, in my personal experience in my area, I have met an astonishing amount of people who genuinely have no concept of what a union or general strike are, so for them, the lack of knowledge is most certainly a big barrier.

Ah, I realize now that, at least on voyager, cross posts don't seem to show the post body contents.

If you click through, you'll be able to see the second page (that is supposed to be on the reverse side) that briefly covers community building as well.

I have the general strike as step two since it made sense to explain what it is immediately after mentioning it, and how it goes hand in hand with unionizing.

At least in my area both unions and a general strike are completely unknown concepts to most people I mention it to, so I wanted it to be clear what they are, though I wrote it while fairly sleep deprived, so I'm sure it could've been done better.

Ultimately this flyer is intended to just get people started down a good path. I could only fit so much without it likely becoming overwhelming and not read, and still fitting on a double sided page.

If you know of a pamphlet that would guide people on these topics better than this one, I would welcome changing mine out for that.

Those are proper heat pumps, they have the extra valve. I'm not used to them since my window AC units back when I had them were from the late 80's and mid 90's 😅

Have you tried the alternatives lately? Impossible meat is indistinguishable from the real thing, and Quorn combined with some marmite or chicken flavoring is an excellent affordable alternative to beef and chicken.

Plant milks are pretty damn good, vegan cheese is getting close.

The others I'm a little surprised make you happier than alternatives. Plant fibers are the bomb for clothes, gas production is... Not something I associate with happiness. Mushroom leather is looking very promising as a replacement for animal leather.

Plant oils are easily as good as animal fats.

This is such an excellent essay. Highly recommend.

Hm, the Edenicity guy makes the opposite case here that small scale farming is actually quite viable (in the context of the viability of cities being self sufficient by growing their own food in urban areas) due to much increased yields compared to industrial scale farming based on studies referenced by David R. Montgomery, and it seems fairly compelling.

Since it's a native linux game, should work a treat on Steam Deck.

If you come up with flyers or zines to help do this, we’d love it if you shared it in this month’s meta to help others do the same.

I managed to put together a quick and dirty solarpunk flyer for the protest tomorrow! You can check it out here: https://slrpnk.net/post/24783048

This campaign is not asking to take away IP from devs or publishers, they would still retain it.

Legally speaking, a game sold for a single payment and without clear stipulation of an end of service would be considered a Good under EU law. Tjis means you're purchasing a perpetual license to your specific copy of the game, but not to the IP or copyright.

Ross, the creator of the SKG campaign, goes into extreme detail on this very topic of goods vs services, and how the game industry is committing fraud by destroying a customer's ability to access the content their perpetual license allows.

You could try to pick up a used one second hand.

At least in China, the losses have been negated by recent technology that allows higher voltages than previously feasible, bringing the losses down to 2.6% per 500 miles.

I'm not against any existing nuclear power continuing to exist, it would be foolish to shut any down at this point. I'm also not entirely against new construction depending on who's doing it and where (France seems capable of getting them online fairly quickly, while the US seems incredibly bad at keeping on time and on budget).

I just think overall, due to how solar can scale up and down, it's overall the most promising solution, as individuals can collectively take action now, instead of waiting for a nuclear power plant to maybe get built in time to help with the climate.

Heat pumps used for cooling aren't any more efficient than an air conditioner, as they are exactly the same technology. The only difference between an air conditioner and a heat pump, is that the heat pump has a valve that lets it work in either direction (to heat or cool), while an air conditioner lacks that valve, and thus only ever cools on one side, and heats on the other.

A window air conditioner turned around so that the exhaust is facing inside the room acts as a heat pump.

While air conditioners/heat pumps are efficient, they still use a lot of electricity. A heat pump is usually considered efficient in comparison to a resistive heater, which is 100% efficient compared to a heat pump's 300%.
