Excellent info, cheers for sharing it. Sounds like it is a fairly safe way to use a phone then.

True. I personally wouldn't trust anything not running a privacy rom, like Graphene or Calyx.

Excellent article. When combined with the previous expose on Williams over on Vice, the evidence seems overwhelming that Ken was nothing more than a fairly heartless new money asshole who readily got caught up in the hard right, and sought nothing more than wealth and the spoils of it.

Back when the Two Guys from Andromeda (Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy, creators of Space Quest) were doing a live stream for SpaceVenture, Ken Williams joined the chat. Upon confirming that it really was him, Scott Murphy was visibly still embittered at Ken, and when Ken mentioned that Space Quest was his favorite series, Scott simply responded "I really doubt that." (If I recall correctly). In a comment elsewhere, he said that as their games became more successful and made more and more money, Ken would always try to pay them less.

Later, Scott got cancer and did a gofundme to help pay for his medical expenses. Ken, a multi millionaire traveling the world on his yacht thanks to the wealth the creatives at Sierra generated, and directly responsible for Murphy losing his job, donated $500.

A few years later, he had a new yacht built from scratch for himself.

I'd actually never used Photoshop until yesterday (CS6 to be exact. Yarr! 🏴‍☠️ ), out of curiosity to see how it compared to this modded GIMP, so I don't really have a good frame of reference on how they truly compare beyond what I messed around with briefly.

On a side note, I've seen on youtube that it's possible to get the latest version of Photoshop working in WINE on Linux Mint, which could be an option if you decide to fully switch to Linux. I managed to get CS6 working in WINE, though it seemed to be a little slowish when making brush strokes (unsure if that was normal or not), and there was a couple minor visual bugs (a tooltip not going away), but nothing that would've fully prevented me from using it.

Woah! Had no idea. Considering that, I'm amazed this ability for GIMP isn't more well known (or maybe it is, and I'm just unusually late hearing about 😅)

That was all Five. They've always had a way with words, but they absolutely threw down a royal flush with that one 😄

The creator of that bio reactor made an incredibly impressive Defcon talk about it and how it works. Highly recommend a watch for those interested.

Also @RandomMouse@slrpnk.net. This is probably the closest you'll get to what you're after.

And also @perestroika@slrpnk.net, just cause I figure you'll find it fascinating :)

Holds up card

It rhymes with band, and gets everywhere.

In my subjective opinion, NovelWriter is one of the finest FOSS writing programs out there. It has enough features for organizing, notes, etc, to be more usable than a text editor, but without the (IMO) unneeded complexity of bigger programs such as Scrivener. It really gets out of your way and lets you get to writing.

It also has been extremely stable and glitch-free in my experience.

If you're okay with not having a WYSIWYG rich text editor, I'd highly recommend giving it a shot. :)

Done by the same publisher of the IF magazine revival, they attempted to bring back Galaxy as well, offering the first revival issue for free. Unfortunately, it seems interest just wasn't there, and another issue never came.

It's cool of them to still offer the free magazine though, the cover art for it is pretty great.

Unfortunately, this revival died out after the first issue, but it was a cool effort.

(Wiki Article of Movie)

The movie has a slow start, but once it finds its stride, it's a pretty compelling watch. Though be warned, it is a product of its time and has some brow-raising levels of sexism.

It's fairly chilling to watch, as it's astonishingly similar to the environment the US is in today (especially after reading the propublica expose on the mole that infiltrated right-wing militias) and it becomes painfully clear how this old and tired playbook is still being used, almost without changes, to dramatic effect.

As the title says, the movie is based on a true story, in this case, the Black Legion was an actual group; a more extreme and violent offshoot of the KKK, if you can believe it. (The wikipedia article basically spoils the movie, so you may want to read it afterward).

What this movie depicts, of the motivations of the people involved, of the system itself, is something we could really use a modern rendition of.
