Why not just sort by Hot, New, or Scaled instead? The popular posts in Active sort will naturally go away as discussion in them dies down (comments boost posts too).

I've encountered a few of those users, and personally I ban them.

My criteria:

  1. They must be downvoting a majority of posts, where it's clear there is no real discrimination on quality (as then some posted close together would be spared)
  2. I notice it happening across multiple communities/instances
  3. I see the same name again and again, day after day
  4. I never see that user upvote anything anywhere

I know there was one user who was mass downvoting to, according to them, mark posts as read.

I thought that was fairly ridulous, as why not just mass upvote instead to achieve the same effect? Wasn't sure I fully bought that, as they were dismissive when someone asked them to stop.

Lemmy is still small, and it seems unwise to allow mass downvoting to potentially discourage or limit the reach of people putting in the effort to help this place grow.

I've never had a downvoter message me to ask why they were banned or dispute it, so I figure they didn't even notice that they no longer saw the stuff that caused them to downvote in the first place.

Ideally, I recommend a Pixel phone with Graphene OS installed.

For other things you can do to make yourself more anonymous online, check out this guide.

This particular version is in an app image package, which requires no install, it just works after double clicking it :)

Yes, linux is a great OS for writers. For writing applications, you'll have access to LibreOffice, NovelWriter, and even an old free Linux version of Scrivener if you prefer it.

That's apparently a new style of presentation oftentimes done purposefully to give a more 'real' or 'authentic' view of the presenter due to appearing as a less polished production.

Dreamweb is a really unique cyberpunk/dystopian point'n'click top down adventure game with a feel I haven't seen anywhere else.

It came with some cool feelies (physical props from the game world included in the box), and had an absolute banger of a soundtrack.

It's odd in that you can pick up virtually any mundane object that isn't nailed down, but only a handful are needed to progress the game, and it's possible to dead-end yourself if you don't pick up the right items, but overall a great little game with a mature, dark story.

As someone who grew up using an inexpensive resistive stove; they're really not that bad once used to their quarks and slowness in changing temperature. If anything, I burned far more food trying to learn a friend's gas stove than I ever did with my old resistive heater.

Saying that, after picking up a really nice used portable induction burner, they are genuinely a upgrade, besides the limitation in pan size due to burner size, which doesn't really exist for other types of stove.

The greatest benefit to a smart induction burner is the precision maintaining a particular temp, alongside the efficiency gains which lead to much less wasted heat in the house during summer.

This doesn't help with avoiding new purchases, but perhaps getting involved in Meshtastic might interest you? As a side effect, putting up your own meshtastic node would help bolster your communities decentralized communication ability for natural disasters or political unrest.

Further resources:

  1. Joining and organizing within your local community to create connections with others is incredibly powerful, and will lay the groundwork for effective resistance.
  2. We can effect things drastically with a general strike. This can massively impact their income streams, and can bring a government to its knees if done on a large enough scale.
  3. Join the IWW and attempt to unionize your workplace, so that the general strike is even more effective (plus you'll get better pay and benefits!)

If we put in the work, we can resist this and we can win. Join up with allies while we still can easily!

It does use AI for the voices, but god dang if it doesn't sound like a genuine talky version, with Gary Owens in particular sounding like they genuinely voiced it.
