Reasoning:

  • Plaid patterns kinda look like a city street grid.

  • Plaid clothing/flannels is often worn by and associated with people who would buy organic, or are 'earthy' (see: Vermont Flannel)

  • This interesting thread.

Potential cons:

Could be confused with the Plaid Bank Linking App.

At least here we have Fediseer to vet instances, and the ability to vet each sign-ups.

I think eventually when we're more targeted, we'll have to circle the wagons so to speak, and only limit communications to more carefully moderated instances that root out the bots.

They certainly did in Florida, where the democrats pretty much completely pulled funding, thinking it was a lost cause.

Solid post from Drew, agree with everything there.

He mentions doing your best to join in your local communities with like minded folk. Here's a good guide on how and where those folk might be to join up with.

And if you follow his advice to unionize, I highly recommend the IWW. They'll help you form a grassroots union that's directly controlled by you and your coworkers. And they'll help you no matter what kind of job you have! Beefing it up is one of the best things we can do to resist.

In the north east US, there's a marshmallow spread called Fluff, which is usually paired with peanut butter on toast and called a fluffer nutter.

I've been excited at that development as well. It's honestly a bit baffling it took them so long, especially game developers, where extreme crunch time and post release seasonal layoffs are the norm.

The IWW is the only union that leans heavily anarchist, with a rich history going back to 1905. :)

For anyone else reading this: you could be the one to make that change, and gain you and your coworkers better pay and time off.

Seriously consider joining the IWW. They'll train you on how to organize your coworkers and form a grassroots union, no matter what your job is.

Now I wish I'd saved my Fuckin' A for this comment

No worries man :)

I love that someone actually attempted that!

I'm hoping season 2 picks up more, as besides some sweet moments, I feel like the first 3 episodes had a lot of filler material compared to the first season, which was a masterpiece.

Surprising in the sense that I just wasn't expecting it, as I wasn't really familiar with it.

General strike (en.wikipedia.org)
submitted 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) by ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net to c/wikipedia@lemmy.world

A general strike is a strike action in which participants cease all economic activity, such as working, to strengthen the bargaining position of a trade union or achieve a common social or political goal. They are organised by large coalitions of political, social, and labour organizations and may also include rallies, marches, boycotts, civil disobedience, non-payment of taxes, and other forms of direct or indirect action. Additionally, general strikes might exclude care workers, such as teachers, doctors, and nurses.

Historically, the term general strike has referred primarily to solidarity action, which is a multi-sector strike that is organised by trade unions who strike together in order to force pressure on employers to begin negotiations or offer more favourable terms to the strikers; though not all strikers may have a material interest in each other's negotiations, they all have a material interest in maintaining and strengthening the collective efficacy of strikes as a bargaining tool.

But at what cost?

Permits were acquired by organizers, so the risk is very low!

If you can't personally make it, it'd help if you spread the word to your friends and family.

While we advised against linking to mainstream social media in the monthly meta, I'm making an exception in this case since this movement is largely being self organized on the r/50501 subreddit.

To find your state, load all the comments until it stops, then use Ctrl + F and search for your state, then expand the comments for that to see what time and place the protest is in your area.

Stay safe, solarpunks. Bring first aid kits if you have them!
