I'm curious to see how this could possibly slow the decline of French. France has the highest number of international students going to McGill compared to any other country, and this would make them reconsider moving to Quebec.
That's crazy! Really puts in perspective how inefficient oilsands are from start to end.
I imagine a lot of the smart chemical engineers working in this domain could transfer their skills for developing drugs, improve batteries, biofuels, recycling, etc.
The oilsands represent about 11 per cent of Canada's total greenhouse gas emissions, while the rest of the oil industry and all of the natural gas industry account for 15 per cent.
Is this just for extracting the oil from oilsands?
The funding will also go toward recruiting and retention of doctors and other health-care professionals and would increase from 16 to 35 the number of Foundry centres in B.C. aimed at improving mental health and wellness among young people.
I think this is a great idea, but I wonder if 35 will be enough. Also, 12 are already planned to be built, so the increase is actually from 28 to 35:
Through Budget 2023, government will add 12 new Foundry centres to provide young people aged 12-24 and their families and caregivers free and confidential services to fit their unique needs.

It seems that the situation in Haiti is much more complex than how it appears on the outside. The suggestion to make the current head of state step down would probably make gangs stronger, whereas getting rid of gangs would require the collaboration of the government. Doing both at the same time could have unexpected results.
I see nothing wrong
Very well deserved award. Her sharp focus on mRNA through many years, even without the support of academic institutions, allowed her to achieve the breakthroughs needed to develop the new gen of vaccines. Per the NYT article:
But for many years her career at the University of Pennsylvania was fragile. She migrated from lab to lab, relying on one senior scientist after another to take her in. She never made more than $60,000 a year. Dr. Kariko’s struggles to stay afloat in academia have a familiar ring to scientists. She needed grants to pursue ideas that seemed wild and fanciful. She did not get them, even as more mundane research was rewarded.
Would love to see partnerships between Northvolt and local EV companies (e.g. Lion Electric). Would be great if the investment evolves to include R&D eventually.
Does Godot work for Switch?
The money will be taken away from the universities. It's unclear whether the QC government will just keep it or redistribute it to French universities.
