Yeah, it does actually require a phone number, though you can use a landline and you can also hide that number for people you chat with.

Not end-to-end encrypted by default, ad-financed, stores data and ecryption keys centrally, analyzes messages while they're being typed etc. It isn't really any more secure than even something like Whatsapp.

Signal works quite well for me. I use it with most of my family members, though for some people I still have to resort to Whatsapp.

No and no. I don't think I'd want to subject my kids to where the world is headed. Also, too much of a long-term commitment that would significantly reduce my opportunities to do what I want, travel etc.

Sure. No need to save up or plan for a future that never comes, so I'd stop saving up money and probably stop working depending on how far in the future it is. Then try to cram as many things that I always wanted to do as possible into my remaining time.

No, pretty sure it's not. Way too consistent and it has none of the artifacts that all current AI videos still have.

Cycling around it was one of my favorite experiences on my latest Japan trip. Quite a lot of ash in the air as it's still an active volcano. There's a shrine you can visit that was almost fully buried in one of the latest eruptions. It's also not overrun with tourists yet, unlike many other places in Japan.

Reparation demands are quite a useful tool for Polish politicians. Whenever there's a political scandal or an unpopular new law they can just demand some reparations from Germany as a distraction. The answer will always be "no" and the media will direct their anger at that for a couple days.

They've stopped development on the actual MMO (Zenith: The last city) in favor of a new free to play action game called Zenith: Infinite Realms around a year ago, while keeping the MMO still technically running but without any further updates. Infinite realms pretty much flopped immediately and development on that also stopped a few months ago. Both are now technically still playable, but without a playerbase or any support by the devs.

Surprised I haven't heard of this. Gotta say, it looks very... Unity AssetStore-y and generic though. Would love another good VR MMO after Zenith died, but I'm not sure this one is it.

In total downvotes, when I expressed support for a smoking ban. I can understand why some people would downvote that I guess.

Proportionally, calling out Hexbear for being authoritarian and rude on lemmy.ml.
