Phew, looks like the industrial revolution just saved us from falling below the safe climate zone! /s

But why do Visa/Mastercard give in to them? If it were governments, or even a very large popular movement I'd get it, as there might be consequences to ignoring those. But Collective Shout is really quite small, there would be no backlash to just ignoring them. I guess maybe they have powerful connections.

I really don't get it. What makes this one radical organization from Australia seemingly have so much influence and power? Frustrating as hell seeing how people's livelihood can just be taken away from one day to the next due to one organization's puritan values.

I can. Never properly learned it, but spent so much time on my computer that it became second nature I guess. Can even do it on my phone with maybe about 90% accuracy.

I like full-size mechanical keyboards with red switches. Currently using a Ducky One 3.

I guess an hour is made up of seconds, so it's technically not a lie? But yeah, seems like a lot of marketing buzzwords without any substance.

I hope nobody will trust them with their data after this. Just leaving their databases open to the public is horrendous. Though I fully expect this kind of stuff to happen way more often over the next few years, with the rise of "vibe coding".

Calling it "TV license fees" is a bit inaccurate, as at least the German fee is not just for TV, but also radio and online offerings. I don't watch TV, but frequently use their online services and occasionally the radio.

No more and no less than any other citizens. Once they've reached citizenship, there should be no differentiation whatsoever.

I'm not Finnish, but this is Ievan polkka, which got world-wide internet fame in the 2000s by Hatsune Miku's cover.

So really, either man the fuck up and actually prove to people that those who choose to live as you do aren’t less than worthless shit disturbers, or recognize that you have a problem and give it up. You can choose which one.

I don't see why I'd have to prove anything to some random payment providers. Their job is to handle my payment for any legal purpose, not to morally judge me because some conservative organization from the other side of the world told them to.

You can see some examples on SteamDB's Bluesky.

So I'm sure some of you have also gotten the spam DMs supposedly from "Nicole, the fediverse chick". She is notorious enough across Lemmy to even have her own community now. I think I've gotten like 6 Nicole DMs. While those may seem amusing on their own, there is the worrying suggestion that they might actually be a deanonymization attack. In light of that possibility, are there any measures the admins here could consider to prevent this kind of attack from happening? Other instances' solutions include for example rehosting external embedded images, filtering out external images from DMs entirely or trying to implement filters for preventing spam DMs from being sent. Especially one of the former two solutions would in my opinion be quite good options to protect the privacy of pawb.social users.

I've started to get into Pixelfed these past 2 weeks but one thing I don't quite understand yet, is what content is getting federated and what isn't. Under "Discover" I can see some trending posts from other instances but most are from the one I'm on and most have barely any interactions in terms of comments etc. I'm a bit surprised, as it's supposedly bigger than Lemmy now but I can see much less content and interactions than on Lemmy. So am I actually getting all the content from instances my instance is federated with, or is it maybe just the specific accounts being followed by members of my instance? And are interactions like hearts getting federated or are they just local?

I feel like the Linux Handhelds made by GPH in the 2000s are a nowadays almost forgotten piece of history, even though they were in some ways the predecessor to today's Steam Deck. So I wanted to create a bit of an appreciation post for this chapter in Linux Gaming history. Did any of you use a GP2X back in the day as well? For me, it wasn't just my introduction to Linux gaming, but also game development, as I programmed my first games for it using GLBasic. It was a fantastic machine for emulation as well, got introduced to many old games from the 80s and 90s through it.

I'm currently waiting for all the components for my PC upgrade to arrive. Got the motherboard today and immediately upon opening, I noticed that the CMOS battery was not in its slot but just kind of next to it loose on top of the board. The slot seems fine, it seems to fit securely in there. No scratches on the board either. But now I'm a bit worried - could the battery have shorted something on the motherboard? It holds a charge after all. What do you think - should I return it for a new one untested or are the chances of the battery harming anything so miniscule that I should just go for it and use it in my build?

The Steam Deck's multitouch screen might be its most underutilised feature. Until recently, I wasn't even sure whether devs could use it for anything more than simple mouse emulation. But I've just started playing "Sky: Children of the Light" on my Deck (which is generally a great experience on Deck, especially on the OLED with 90Hz HDR) and I found that when using a musical instrument, you can actually use the touchscreen to play up to 10 notes at the same time.

This got me curious: Do you know if there are any other games on Deck using multitouch, or is Sky the first one that does it?

Für mich 90% Übereinstimmung mit Volt

That would explain why I didn't have any problems with Youtube and uBlock Origin.

I've noticed that Pawb no longer seems to receive any new posts from any feddit.de communities. For example, if I view the "DACH" community through Pawb, the latest post is from 7 days ago, while on feddit itself, there were many posts in the last 7 days. Both instances still seem to be federated and aren't on each other's blocklists. Any idea what is happening here?
