Easier to just downvote the annoying ass FOSS nerds.

Just checked. All of the "cheap" ones require you to order 2+, and then have insane shipping costs. The rest are $100-120 CAD.

I don't think these things will ever be affordable. People who want one badly, will pay the money, and everyone knows it. No need to sell them at MSRP.

Find lemmy?

Any positive comments about any non-FOSS app is downvoted. Any mention of Windows is downvoted. Any thread trying to discuss news not related to Linux is downvoted.

Like the one where Microsoft announces Paint is gettting layers and transparency, and the entire thread is filled with Linux nerds downvoting anyone saying they're excited.

Or the one someone mentioned above where someone was asking help with MS Office, and every comment was ignoring the request, telling the guy to download Libre Office, which isn't helpful..

EDIT: here's an example. Clicked the first link. Didn't even have to look far. https://lemmy.ca/post/6051300

EDIT 2: are we going to ignore the hate the Sync and Boost dev get, because they aren't FOSS and they charge a one-time-fee to remove ads? Despite the fact their apps are extremely polished, and so extremely far ahead any of the FOSS apps? Even though the FOSS heads can just.. use the FOSS apps? Why hate alternatives that attract more people to Lemmy?

Most average people are afraid of the command line, and really want a GUI for everything. Many of these people’s first exposure to Linux could scare them away depending on the distro they happened to choose, I think.

Or it's the fact the community is so toxic?

Every computer, doesn't matter brand or hardware, never works 100% out of the box on Linux. Doesn't matter which distro.

You ask online, and people scream at you to run terminal commands or go back to Windows.

You run a terminal command that breaks your system, and people blame you for running random terminal commands..

You go back to Windows, and people say "Linux is so friendly, you don't even have to touch the terminal anymore if you really don't want to!"

Rinse and repeat.

Linux - I can't run that software.

Linux - I can't run that hardware, the drivers are for Windows/Mac only.

Linux mobile - I have the performance and depth of a diaper full of shit. (cough, cough²)

or FOSS nerds flooding in any post to do with technology that isn't FOSS, ruining the discussion and downvoting everyone who even mentions anything that isn't FOSS.

Like the post about Windows Paint getting layers and transparency support, and every person trying to discuss it is downvoted, and there's a flood of comments talking about how you should use Linux because Microsoft is spying.

Like ok? Or lets discuss the fucking topic?

$29 CAD to remove ads in Sync, while Boost is $4.39 CAD.

I'd rather pay $4.39 and donate when I can. Overall Boost will end up getting more money from me in the end. It's hard to justify nearly $30 on a platform that may not survive, but easier to justify less than $5 with frequent donations.

Wait, your company will drop you when security updates end, but they are okay with you installing a custom ROM? Seems weird.

Reddit mods are paid in control. They get to feel big and important.

I mean shit, toxic ass mod team of /r/Android was late to Lemmy, and is trying their hardest to maintain control over here. They made an agreement with the original lemmy.world android community to shut down and redirect the traffic to their lemdro.id instance.

@MargotRobbie@lemmy.world resurrected it.

So that's a pretty bad comparison in my opinion.

I don't buy any pis because they are $100+ in Canada.

Remember when it was supposed to be a cheap computer? Ya..

I guess if you enjoy a small group of people jerking themselves off and arguing over which distro is best, sure.
