I saw a thread on Twitter and Reddit asking whether characters like Batman, Iron Man, and Iron Fist actually need to be wealthy for their stories to work. Some people were saying that, in the DCU, Batman doesn’t have to be rich—he could just be middle class and the story would still work. Similarly, if the MCU gets rebooted, Tony Stark wouldn’t necessarily need to be wealthy and could be working class instead.

A lot of people argued that this would make these characters more relatable and easier to root for. Personally, I’d say no. Elseworlds stories are fine, but if you’re adapting these characters into movies or TV shows, you should stay at least somewhat comic-accurate. Their wealth is a key part of who they are.

Stark Industries, Wayne Enterprises, and Rand Industries are characters in the story too, and they play important roles in shaping these heroes and their worlds.

It’s similar to how Clark Kent being a reporter or Peter Parker struggling financially are essential to their characters. Those traits help define their stories.

Let’s say someone’s family was in the army, so they moved around a lot from birth, and they didn’t really have a ‘home,’ but they’re into sports—how do they choose their favorite team? Do they just decide to hold off until they move somewhere permanently, and then choose that city’s team as theirs?

For example, in The Shield, the cop character Shane is super racist and says the N-word, but when a Black girl is killed, Shane gets really mad and wants to find and kill the killer or bring him to justice. Some CEOs who are straight-up classist would still help their employees, and if their employee dies, they would start funds for their kids. But why? Why would people like this do something ‘good,’ especially when there isn’t anything in it for them?

I mean, I just don’t really understand how lawyers can defend rapists, child predators, murderers, etc. I think I would have to have a moral line somewhere.

If your son was a super wealthy multi-millionaire and lived in LA or New York, but he wasn’t famous and wasn’t close to your family members (brothers, nephews, nieces, etc.), would you tell them your son is rich?

Me personally, a lie by omission is still a lie, and hiding and keeping secrets from your family is wrong. I get that the son in this scenario could keep his wealth private from his extended family members if their situation is like mine—I only see my family, like my uncle and cousins, once a year, and that’s it, and we barely talk on the phone or social media. I don’t even follow them. But if my son got wealthy somehow, it would be morally wrong not to tell them.

Red pill 'alpha' guys claim wealthy men don't care about a woman's background and will date poor women, yet they often mock women seeking rich men. In reality, wealthy men tend to date within their social class. Look at Jeff Bezos, David Beckham, or Leonardo DiCaprio—these men date successful women who are already rich or from wealthy families. Even with large age gaps, the younger partners are still well-off. It seems red pill guys overstate the idea that rich men don't care about a woman's status when, in practice, they do.

Alex is a young, ultra-wealthy millionaire living in Los Angeles. He buys a mansion in Bel Air from a pop star, so the house is legally his.

Later, Alex has an affair with his cousin’s wife, Maya. They have a child together, but Alex and Maya are not married. (nor have they ever been married they had a one night stand and a child together)

Question:

Does Maya have any legal right to Alex’s Bel Air mansion simply because they have a child together, even though they are not married?

Same question applies if genders are reversed.

How did Bruce Wayne, Ted Kord, Oliver Queen, or any rich superhero build their lair without anyone knowing who they are—especially when so few people know their secret identity?

Doesn't That level of power automatically makes someone:

Publicly known (at least in business, government, media circles) Documented online, in filings, press, contracts, etc. Recognizable to anyone

Especially if the CEO is a person of color who came from a middle class background

Wouldn't they be automatically famous?
