That's one way to see it, but when the academics descend from the academy to tell everyone that resistence to violence must be non-violent, they mean it in the other way.

Like this idea that all Palestinian violence against Israel is self-defense is completely foreign to people who superficially support a free Palestine (in the west at least).

Because idealism leads them to believe that if only the right words are said by the right people in the right order, the world fundamentally changes. History is a mirage, and its slaughterbench is behind us.

The worst drivel anyone on the "left" has published (looking at you Judith Butler) on this, comes to the notion that to have a just world real resistence would just reproduce the hell we live in today. History has stopped for these people, and only ideas and singing kumbaya can save us. I sum this up with that terrible thought terminating cliche, you cannot tear down the masters house with the masters tools, as though a fucking hammer isn't the fastest way to do so. A neat trick is the hammer works on the master himself too.
