She wasn't even that rich. Her parents appear to be academics that got lucky with some investments a long time ago, and she was a social worker and teacher at some point.

Of all the terrible things the rich do with money, collecting a massive and very specific type of book is the least terrible. It seems like all these are heading to a library too, which is cool.

Reject the coded and striated space of chess (knights and kings, institutionalization), and embrace the smooth space of go (a louse or an elephant, deterritorialization).

I read it several years ago, it was an interesting book. Banks did a good job challenging himself to continue to ask ethical questions within what is otherwise his utopian society. I think I liked the ordering as unusual as it was. It did make its reveling moments quite dramatic, but as I think back on it what I remember most was the chair (truly horrifying), which maybe overshadowed some of the finer points? Idk my memory of it is shaky, I'll re read it one day.

Diziet sma was cool. I liked her in state of the art as well.

Are you telling me the octogenarian isn't popular with the youth?

I wonder if he dictates these over the phone or sends them in an email without a subject to the person who posts these for him. Whichever it is, I hope that person replies with "another day another banger, Norm"
