Only their own specifically. Our economy wants people to only care about themselves. Even though this doesnt make sense as polluting the earth will directly impact you.

This. I think laziness is a huge problem.

I disagree. But these improvements are often low level, so that Meta can save costs doing the shit they do

[–] Pantherina@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Could you recommend one?

The screenshot on Wikipedia showed GNOME with that Ubuntu like Panel.

Find out if they have RSS/Atom feeds and use any Feed reader

Zwei Seiten

Seems to be dead, but can probably be hosted locally

Efficient apps, everywhere. For example the COSMIC desktop is modern AND fast.

Hm... okay maybe. The issue is we have nearly all files but the file headers are missing.

Looking for some tools to recover those header files

There are tons of addons but they are all weird. I currently have lots of pinned tabs and would like to move those to a sidebar.

Only the favicon, custom side adding, like on Brave.

Is there such a thing in Firefox?

Edit: no I dont want all Tabs on the side! Just a few pinned ones like in Brave

Disclaimer

Flatpak uses OSTree, like Fedora Atomic Desktops (Silverblue, Kinoite etc) and similar to BTRFS snapshots.

So many files are deduplicated and linked, not actually there

50GB without
31GB with deduplication
21,4GB with BTRFS compression

Hey people! To save myself a lot of searching, I would love to hear your tips on how to use a modern, secure immutable Fedora+Hyprland setup with all the regular stuff working.

Hyprland docs seem to only cover the basic packages, but what about network, clipboard, volume control, mic, indicators, bluetooth, archiving, printing and all that?

I would like to create my first ublue spin as there only is Fedora Sericea currently and I that looked horrible and was very buggy.

This is not hyprland specific, I would just like to understand how these packages work, and what you should add.

I have a Prometheus builtin one in my Thinkpad and even though the mainboard firmware sucks, the sensor has libfprint support.

Now I want to switch to a Clevo NV41 which has coreboot thanks to Novacustom and 3mdeb.

But I dont want to type my password that often and I use Fingerprint everywhere.

Plasma 6 is said to have Webauthn / Fido2 keys support, which could be a solution, but apart from that, I would like a USB fingerprint reader.

These Benns ones where reported to work years ago, but they are not available anywhere anymore.

I already tried one from ARCANITE (through Amazon) and it didnt work.

I think some are not actually sensors but security keys with password storage and fingerprint unlock?

Does anyone know USB fingerprint sensors that work and are available? I would also be interested if these are actually secure or some cheap stuff that is very insecure.

Out of curiosity, do Android phone sensors work? I had an IR one on mx Pixel 7pro that I swapped from a broken display to a good one, and that could totally be done on a laptop (if you get the flat cable...)

I am reading a lot about this currently.

Basically:

  • podman, flatpak, some Browsers use user namespaces to isolate activities from the main system
  • they are widely used as a security measurement
  • on Linux Flatpak uses them, as bubblewrap creates new user namespaces for each application
  • Flatpakked browsers cant use user namespaces themselves, as this is not compatible with flatpak. So their security especially in Chromium is reduced.

But that is as far as I go. The hardened Linux Kernel disables user namespaces. There is bubblewrap-suid which avoids using user namespaces.

Unflatpakked browsers are more secure as they can use their builtin sandbox to do things like tab isolation. But does this even work when user namespaces are disabled, or does this also break sandboxing?

Are user namespaces secure, is not using them even worse, what are hidden implications?

I also read that firejail runs as root, so if it has a security hole the sandboxed program can get root privileges. Isnt that the same with bubblewrap-suid ?

Two things make me switch to Jerboah always

  • that unified button not being a normal +
  • not being able to edit posts??

Did I miss something? Could editing posts please be added?
