Yup, most times when a business gets set up for accepting credit card payments they need to set up a bank, merchant account, gateway, those things integrate with the CC companies. Often they aren't even the same company so you're kind of dealing with a bunch of different entities. I'm not sure if I missed any other middlemen.

The new thing is for the POS system / website / whatever to sell you the merchant account/gateway under their own systems so everything besides the bank and credit card companies are integrated through them (& they collect more money).

In my early 30's still felt like I was in my late 20's so never really gave it much thought. Maybe around 33-35 I actually started getting into a more 30's mindset.

Anyway, don't overthink it :)

In the U.S. with insurance you would have easily hit the deductible and out-of-pocket costs though that does mean you would have been billed a few thousand dollars easily (on top of the regular monthly insurance costs). Everyone has slightly different health insurance plans so the actual amount would be hard to predict for a hypothetical question.

One thing you got me thinking, I'm not too sure how often U.S. insurers would actually cover someone to literally stay 4 months in a hospital, maybe in rare extreme cases? Insurance companies typically only approve x amount of days/weeks in hospitals or rehabilitation facilities so once you use up those approved days the hospital has to figure out how to get you out or start billing you directly at a few thousand per day.

On a weekday would take 24-48 hours, work would probably start making calls if I just randomly stopped showing up. It would be odd enough if I didn't show up for one day without calling/emailing anyone, 2 days would become concerning.

Might take longer over a weekend, depends whether I have any family trying to text or call me.

Only browse old.reddit when searching around for info I might not run into otherwise but haven't needed to log in there in the last 1-2 years or so. Beyond that usage it's just Lemmy for the normal browsing/posting/commenting.

Bird looks like he's about to blow up at Mouse towards the end. Then again in the earlier comic Bird was way too confident in Mouse, LOL.

Wish I had more free time but unfortunately my work/life balance is pretty bad at the moment.

But every once in a while the urge will hit and I'll end up playing something obsessively for a few weeks or so while suffering through a lack of sleep during that time.

Yeah with Propagandhi it's always a toss-up whether they'll make it into the U.S., they were set to play Fest this year too until they canceled. Kind of wonder if they'll even bother trying to tour the U.S. for the next 4 years at least, ugh.

PS - Streetlight is playing Asbury Park later this month if you want to add another show to your count :P (you probably already know about that one)

World/Inferno Friendship Society by far, must have seen them 10-15 times in the NYC/NJ area. Averaged 1-2 times a year up until the lead singer passed away 4 years ago (RIP CLOTH). Their live show was kind of a intense mix of dancing, moshing, singing along and just kind of letting loose. The fans sort of created an entire community around the band and we'd recognize each other from all the other shows we've been to together. Their annual halloween show (Hallowmas) was always the highlight, the band would go all out with live show spectacles both on and off the stage.

I still go to plenty of other live shows, at the moment have leaned into folk punk bands. Apes Of State and Escape From the Zoo are some of my current favorites maybe seen them 4-5 times now.

Kind of like that it's a bit slippery, makes it easy to slide into my pocket. A case would just feel too bulky and and would need more force to get in/out of my jean pockets (IMO).

Regrettably, despite having a case, I managed to crack the screen anyway. It fell face down onto a pointy rock. My first broken screen, ever.

Oof yeah I sympathize :) My previous Pixel had a screen protector on it and I still managed to crack the screen by dropping the phone on a corner and getting a nice little corner crack. After that I figured why keep bothering with these protectors haha.

Most people I know have cases on their phones, yeah.

But in case it is helpful my own phone (Pixel 7) has no case/screen protector. Also my phone has cracks on the back and one corner so this tracks :P (but otherwise it has held up quite well)
