We all know that in some alternate timeline, she surely did:-).
Not only do people avoid creating instances for this reason, but several previously existing instances shut down as a result, like DMV.social.
I mean... maybe ~~we~~ they are into that? :-P
Do him Beverly
Right, so I hope this perspective from across the pond helped see how things are... tense over here.:-)
I would not say that - for one thing we have nukes - but while there is much room for subtlety and nuance, there are aspects that are not entirely unlike a third-world nation...
But more to the point, while the direction that the country is turning into may be that way, the current status of living for most people is quite high. Though that too gets more complex to measure b/c if you talk about e.g. a boomer, then Americans have one of if not the highest standard of living in the world (I might be wrong about that, but it's at least "high" I think?), whereas e.g. a gen-alpha has significantly less hope for their own future.
Although the latter could change rapidly with a change in e.g. housing pricing, or more relevant, changes in laws that would allow newer housing units to be created (b/c they are sources of income for people who already have multiple homes, there is an incentive to disallow new ones to be created that would lower the value of their equity, thus leading to restrictive markets catering to that segment of society).
In any case, it is most definitely a time of turmoil. One side is fighting to offer aid to e.g. hurricane survivors, while the other side is calling for literal war and bloodshed of the other. This tends to put a damper on conversations with the latter side.
Just wait till they find out who Darth Plagueis is...
por que no los dos, wink 😉
This may sound weird, but if you can stand it (some people cannot handle either the visuals or the concepts, and that's cool) watch The Walking Dead TV series. Like many modern zombie shows but more so than most, the focus is on what happens after the shit hits the fan.
The real threat, after the first initial shock, isn't nature as in zombies but rather nurture as in humans, who will resort to slavery at the drop of a hat if given two seconds chance. (You might have worried more about canabalism, but that would be temporary bc it would be so much better to eat e.g. pork, prepared by slaves).
Actually, a bit ironically, did you know that there are more black people locked up and doing work in prisons than there ever were utilized as slaves? No, I don't mean in the show, I mean right now, irl, in America, "the home of the free", and in particular the so-called "Bible Belt". Seriously, minor infractions that white children get off scott free with will land a black person in jail for the maximum sentencing time, and if they didn't have anything (like drugs) on them, then surely something could be... ahem, "found"? You know, to fulfill the for-profit quota.
Once you start opening your eyes to such, it's sickening, to think not about what would happen if society were to collapse in the future, but what's already happening right the fuck now, maybe as little as ten miles away from where you are now.
As in they both are ghosts or... ? :-P
