It might be information overload but like... it seems hard to imagine people finding out that their wells were bad to drink from, and then simply deciding not to care. Though, that's probably naive and it's likely always been this way.

Oh wow, gross, but therefore thanks for sharing!:-)

Man, even if you boil the water... that sounds no bueno... People act like humans live "better" lives than those from 100 years ago, as if well water wasn't fresher and cleaner than what crap we get out of our tap. Tbf, vaccines exist now and that's HUGE (well... for those that choose to take them), but in other ways we've gone backwards or at least sidewise rather than forward.

And the absolute saddest part is how we'll simply do this all over again in 4 years time, plus smaller versions before then for the Congressional midterms.

This likely will never end in our lifetimes. Like COVID it will become our new normal.

The good news there is that Trump really is something special. No really, bc like everyone on both sides hoped for Ron Desantis to replace him, but nobody can hold a candle to Trump's outright cult appeal.

And he will end in our lifetimes:-). After that, the likes of Ivanka and Jared won't be nearly such a force to be reckoned with. Like COVID, perhaps it will fade away into the background:-). (The caveat: we need to develop a vaccine against disinformation first, and that may prove tricky... but in any case, being forewarned is forearmed and without Trump, it may be easier to make headway.)

I wanted to add to others' comments: usernames as well.

So e.g. I could go create an account called Matty@lemmy.world, and another called Matty@lemm.ee, and another Matty@lemmy.zip, etc. (assuming none of these already existed), and they each would be different - plus none of these would be you.

This is a reason why many celebrities say that they refuse to come to the Fediverse, b/c of this potential for misunderstanding regarding the account names - which tbf that is not entirely "new" issue since it would affect emails too, and yet in reality it is new b/c Twitter/X and Reddit and Facebook got people spoiled to expect a certain style of behavior so using the Fediverse feels to them a step backwards (we had a discussion about that topic recently).

So, exactly like email and a website URL, it takes the full thing to specify something exactly - a username, or a community.

Well look at Mr. Perfect over here, "getting over" these major panic attacks?! :-P

On a more serious note, we're not okay. Even those who think the most strongly that they are - including black, gay, women etc. planning on voting Republican, thinking that surely the leopards won't eat their faces off? (and legitimately they might not... for a time)

Ironically, we all would have been better off if we had had more fear, especially back when it was possible to make more of a difference. e.g. that women's march after Trump's election and others like it the following year(s) was iirc the largest simultaneous collective gatherings of human beings that have ever occurred on planet earth before in the history of... literally ever - but what if it had been 5-10-50x larger than that even? Could the billionaire-bought media have so easily pushed it aside then?

Or we saw what happened when the powerful people asked Biden to step aside - he did. What if similar had happened to Hillary Clinton... or what if she had actually bothered to campaign in the midwest battleground states?

But all we can do is keep moving forwards. That's all that is (ever) possible. Live and learn, and keep fighting the good fight.

Oh, thanks for the correction!:-)

That does not benefit specifically Alphabet though...

Which is all the easier to do when you start off with a higher number...

John Stewart is a treasure, I am so glad to hear this! ❤️

It has to run out of all the water that was sitting still between the output hole and the input source where it's heated. If your apartment has a central water tank, that has its advantages - e.g. a whole family inside your place could take successive showers without ever running out of hot water - but this is the primary disadvantage to that, the wait to go through that cold water, which gets worse the further/higher up you are away from it.

Maybe try to find a way to not entirely waste it - like put some of that into a water kettle to be boiled for a hot drink? I enjoy such thoughts but do as you please ofc.

I am no plumber, just thought this might be interesting to know:-). I am 10,001% certain that someone will correct me here if I have said anything inaccurate. 😂

I thought the same. Also it's much higher for young males under age 25. Tbf testosterone is a bitch and that demographic causes a lot of the most extreme preventable accidents.

Which ironically encourages people to ride bikes! If only that were not nearly a suicidal activity in the USA in so many places... 😢
