Right, I was raising awareness of that specter and suggesting that it would need follow-up research into the history. It looks like that website was announced a year ago but I found nothing (except this OP) about "explorer" & "lemmy.ml" by a quick search in this community or in other communities too. At a guess it would have been discussed offline, i.e. Matrix rather than Lemmy.
It's not like they are encouraged to do so, and punished if not. Oh wait...
These identities have been changed in order to protect the witnesses. (The real conversation was b/t Worf & Alexander)
This is a bit of a tangent though - OP was talking about instances, which at least one person said was removed deliberately so as not to overload them - so presumably by their own consent and likely even request?
Whereas here you are talking about communities, which should be visible across the Federation regardless - subject to the standard, complex set of rules (which you are working to lower the barrier for with all your alts pre-subscribing:-).
And to complicate matters further, it sounds like these communities have been missing from that list for many months now already. So this truly might be a unique situation, if that instance has actively removed consent to be listed there? Perhaps they would reconsider offering their consent to listing the communities if asked though?
I have stopped recommending Lemmy to people, bc I would be embarrassed for a new user to come here, get bullied as I have been (far more than happened on Reddit), and blame me like "you recommended me to talk to that crowd!?"). Kbin.social was different bc those communities were blocked from the start - at an instance level even - though that server has been down for days, and now I see it's back up and full of advertisement posts as usual, bc many mods abandoned their communities due to all the technical problems with the service.
But there is hope for change in the future, in terms of perhaps making getting dunked on an opt-in rather than as it currently is an opt-out feature delivered to members of the Fediverse with little to no warning. e.g. here is a discussion I had with an instance admin. Progress, since so many of us joined the Fediverse since the Rexodus, has been (understandably) slow, but can happen, if we work at it!
I think you are presuming the consequent here. It may help to strip the story of all emotional connotations and just treat it as a logical game - hard to do tbf but it would help. So like, if you start with a story where it is a given that a real God exists, then a lot of freaky stuff can happen downstream from that... bc the Truth is just stranger than fiction, I mean regardless of this stuff even it just is.
e.g. in The Matrix movie, you can go your whole entire lifetime and never once see The Architect, nor anyone you've ever met or even heard of either... and yet he exists all the same. Saying like "well then why have *I* never seen him" represents an assumption that may not be valid - in that case, that you would or even could ever do so (by what, walking to work, eating noodles, drinking at a pub, reading a book, intoning a chant in an old language?).
Anyway I cannot prove the existence of God so I'm not even trying to do that here, just to show you a peek into the idea that presuming that He does not exist in the first place relies on some heavy assumptions, that cannot be proven. Or maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill here, and misunderstanding you, especially if English isn't your first language. But those are some thoughts that I can offer to help get you started on your pathway to better understanding it from the outside, just in case they may help.
Some atheists seem to not want to full-on "hate" fascism, I guess thinking it demeans them or some such. As such their more neutral stance makes them "collaborators" (or worse), whether they realize that or not. And thereby allows such to spread, by virtue of not being opposed hard enough.
Evil needs to be fought against - and I'm not talking some alien lifeform with red skin, a forked tail, and carrying a pitchfork, but inside of our very selves.
But I guess I didn't express my last point very well:-D.
It is a harsh realization when you wake up and find out that literally everything that you have been told as being most important was a lie.
Therefore the brain protects against that injurious state, by disconnecting from that reality, while holding onto the "love" that the cult members offer - acceptance, affirmation, etc.
This is adaption at work, arguably a good thing, i.e. a mechanism to protect someone as they are being abused.
Society has failed them, even as they feed that forward and now fail society.
We cannot change the past, only try to do as best we can to move into the future.
Of course not. The point would be to offer people the choice - the consequences of any action are never up to us, only the decisions.
I don't know if I agree, and I don't know that I don't, but either way I'm upvoting bc I am glad to be offered this to mull over - social media done right!:-)
