I dunno, but he had it on his calendar so it must be true. :-P
Ironically, people fleeing persecution of the Anglican religion in England and wanting to worship God in their own way (still Puritan though) was basically the number one thing that gave America its start, and therefore formed the strongest core of its identity. You hear more about the "go west young man" type of independence loving peoples, bc it is more recent and there are TV shows depicting it made with less time intervening between its end and their construction - i.e. cowboy westerns. Shows that depict the former are much more rare though, e.g. Salem.
Until recently, the vast majority of Americans considered themselves Christian, at least in theory - like, even if they almost never went to church. And the stories we tell are full of Judeo-Christian themes of fairness and virtue and living "rightly", like King Arthurian myths (as opposed to e.g. cunning and craftiness uplifted in other parts of the world, e.g. Aladdin or most Russian tales).
But the key is: who stands between you and God? Nobody? (=freedom) Or some old, rich, landowning white man? "Nobody" implies a terrible burden of personal responsibility, somewhat akin to running your own Linux server and even having installed Arch btw (at least once sometime, for the experience if not a daily driver), whereas "big daddy corpo-king takes care of you" seems to be the philosophy that rules the current day:-(.
Translation: we gave up our freedom for the sake of convenience. And now we are all too weak pushovers to be able to stand up to what's coming next. Oh well, Rome fell too - it's not like we were going to exist forever.
Dare to be different, I guess:-D.
That's the thing: it will take me more time and attention to figure that all out, plus either a hardware purchase or even more time and attention to spin up an appropriate VM - e.g. I wonder if Netflix ads can be bypassed if my router itself is running a blocker specifically for them - and if so would it be like a minute of empty space at the start of each show (I could totally live with that), or randomly 5 minutes of such every 10 minutes (possibly depending on the show, and maybe more frequent if it keeps trying bc it knows the ads weren't previously delivered).
I haven't done such for over a decade, and the landscape has entirely changed. I was hoping that a couple of shows that disappeared from Netflix when Disney+ came out would get me by for like a year. And it might actually.
Anyway, Netflix knows all this, and is counting on people not willing to put in the time & energy to bypass it. Which is fine - it is a service they provide after all - so now it's a matter of how much pain they can get away with causing before the other alternatives start to look more attractive...
Yup, that's exactly how I think they should be used as well.
Is this losing son?
Exactly. But when I said that, it was equally up vs. downvotes and that kind of rocky start can kill a post's visibility in Hot. Now there's 10x more up than down so it seems past that hurdle, but even so I figured it would be a good reminder overall.
And now many people work from home, in like pajamas or equivalent. Personal toilet, snacks, that's the life! :-)
I think it probably depends on the person and whether they would be okay with it or not? Like is it silly such as "Bish pulease", whereas I've never once heard someone call someone else like a "cunt" (UK, and I guess Australia?) and had it be any kind of okay. But rap culture seems to have redeemed bitch... maybe, for some people?
Edit: as always, it's the consent that makes all the difference.
I always enjoy him, he's quite good:-).
30 years, on top of another 50 years you mean?
Even if he meant this in hexadecimal base 16, I still wouldn't believe it!:-P
