Professors these days are extremely overworked - it's possible it simply got lost, plus it's not their business to provide a copy, especially for someone they think might be able to get one via their own means. Anyway you are right: it doesn't always work.:-)
So long as demand exceeds capacity, we will wait.
Sometimes being proven wrong can feel so, so right!:-P
Sometimes I want to find something, like an image that I have shared previously (for ease of reuse but also to reduce the load on the servers to not have to store it multiple times), and so I'll want to search comments (not posts) by sth like Top Month or Top Week, but ofc cannot:-(. So instead like a chump I just go through them one by one until I find what I wanted... It's annoying to visually see those options provided, yet they do not function as you would expect. So indeed, they need to do a lot of work on the search functions:-).
But this is a thought for the interim:-).
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
This URL seems to work for new: https://lemmy.world/search?type=Posts&listingType=All&page=1&sort=New, so until they fix it in the UI you could bookmark that?
I imagine they will do a lot of work on the search feature at some point.
Irk? Some YouTube channels are like million-dollar production studios - I dunno about this one but this video definitely seems more mainstream than merely fan-made.:-)
That is one component.
Not being able to connect the things happening irl with the specific policies that Trump implemented to directly cause them is another. e.g. he deregulated train safety, then we saw a bunch of train derailments occur, both still under Trump and some later under Biden. Trump basically defunded those specific police, then we FAAFO.
Another is that when you are surrounded by people who say the same thing (as one another), some people go with that "authority" over what they see with their very own eyes. So they trust the Joe Rogan podcast over their own analysis - e.g. MANY federal crimes is bad, but if podcast says so then it must be "the system" that is bad (which heavily ironically... it is!) rather than Trump. Normalization of Fox News did so much bad, especially allowing it to call itself the label "news".
We did not get to our current state of affairs overnight, and we will not be able to dig ourselves out of this quickly and easily. Ironically, they get that, and despite him being a racist personally, they are willing to overlook if he would make things better. The other side has to get its message across that it will do more to help the common (black) man & woman than Trump would, and did.
I just changed my default sort from Hot to New and then back again - so those two values for that option definitely work. If you are using some third-party client to access Lemmy, I cannot say the same for it - perhaps it has a bug? But most places on Lemmy I've been have these in their settings and they work - the issue is on your end.
Which is empowering bc you can play around with a bunch of different things and find a way that will work, rather than have to wait on the devs to decide to help or not:-).
e.g. you could bookmark this link: https://lemmy.world/?dataType=Post&sort=New. Speaking of, perhaps your bookmark to access Lemmy has a similar setting, but for Hot and that is overriding your default choice? Or after you set the default, are you certain that it is saving properly?
Anyway, I hope I gave you some interesting ideas to check up on:-).
Not everybody feels that way. It probably depends on the activity and space. But if it would still be fun to do alone without someone, then go for it!? ๐
Why would we assume this is a man? /s, and ignoring man vs. male-assigned-at-birth or whatever, just trying to make that joke about a woman with really hairy legs! ๐
