What's the correct way of handling those calls. I'll usually just let them say their bit and then say I'm not interested, which I think is fair but I wonder if it's not easier for everyone involved to just cut them up and say you're not interested immediately.

My partner's mum gets right on my goat because she insists on being an absolute arse on the phone. I get it, it's annoying but I don't understand the need to be a total see you next Tuesday to the person on the phone. Hang up and move on.

I've only really had four jobs. All retail and warehouse. So, it's kinda hard to decide which was the worst so I'm gonna go with the one I lasted one day on before walking out.

It was at a large garden centre. I spent the entire day standing behind the till. Standing. Assistants weren't allowed to sit down because they'd occasionally have to help a customer or move a large plant onto the checkout, which apparently the customer couldn't do?

Anyway I walked in the following morning and said it wasn't for me. I could have ghosted them, but I thought I owed them that much....Sods didn't pay me; fuck 'em.

Pikmin Bloom is a 'Pokemon Go style game right? Might pick that up for the kids school run if it can scratch a similar itch.

I've had a week off work so I've played a fair bit more than I would normally. Threw a few things off of my backlog that I didn't connect with and then spent a fair bit of time with....

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Had a really good time with this one, especially in the first 10 or so hours. It did fall away towards the end, largely because it gets increasingly difficult as you go along. That's not a criticism of the game as much as it's an acknowledgement that I don't love super tough platforming in games. Ultimately I used the games pretty great accessibility features to knock the difficulty right down and got to the end whilst also feeling like a total badass.

Returnal

I've had less time with this as I only started it yesterday whilst waiting for Demons Souls to download. And I think it's safe to say that Demons Souls will have to wait. Returnal feels like something totally fresh and new to me. I've got no effing idea what's going on, and I don't really understand how the game works, but I'm having a total blast so far.

My eldest (6) absolutely loves Minecraft but I've never been a fan of it, and truth be told, it bores me to tears. Any suggestions to make it less.....that.

I tried this game because everyone is going on about it and I bounced off it so hard that it made me question everything I thought I knew...

Okay so I'm not a big poker guy, and I really struggled with the feeling that I wasn't playing it correctly (little things like not knowing any hands). Real shame because it seems like the sort of game that people are going to be playing for months and months.

I also think this changes depending on the job you're going for. There's absolutely no reason I'd try to be funny or interesting on my entry-level order picker job. Assuming they even bother to look at my CV they're mainly looking to see if I've got any work history.

If I'm applying for something creative, or maybe something that requires a bit of personality I'm sure it'd go over better... although even that is a double-edged sword.

Totally with you. I'd do away with the monarchy in a heartbeat if I could..but I'll never cheer on someone going through a rough time in this way. Hope he makes a full recovery, same with Princess Katherine.

Edited the title for you buddy.

Thank you. I cannot get this Lemmy linking thing down.

The Tories love having an ethnically diverse cabinet because the racism doesn't look like racism if it's being said by a brown person.

Like a photograph issued from Buckingham Palace, the weekend is gone, and it's time to regale us with tales of what you've been playing over the last few days. And more importantly, do you think it's any good?

I'll kick us off with an absolute banger...

Boyzone - Love Me For A Reason

I was like 6. I wanted it desperately. Listening back to it now, as a 36 year old man I can admit that it's an absolutely horrible bit of music....but it still takes me back to being a young kid.

Okay so work with me a little here. You've just been tasked with recommending a game to someone who's got very little experience with gaming.

Maybe they're a kid who's just starting out, or maybe they've just never had much interest in videogames.

What one game are you giving to them to show what videogames can be

After President Abraham Lincoln's assassination, his secretary of war and friend, Edwin Stanton begins the manhunt to track down Lincoln's assassin John Wilkes Booth.

I'm a bit of a Presidential history nerd, so I'm super interested to see this one. I'm also a Toby Menzies nerd, so I'm interested to see him too.

I'm only through one episode so far, and I think it had a pretty solid start. I'm hoping (and I would think this to be the case given who Menzies is portraying) that it focuses on the politics of the day, rather than merely being a show about bringing the perpetrators to justice.

So I've got a friend at work; just turned thirty. He's perhaps not the smartest tool in the shed, and whilst he does look thirty, I think if we were guessing his age by his level of maturity, we'd place him fairly squarely in the 18-22 age range.

Anyway, 30 has had this ongoing thing with this girl at work. She's 19. He sees nothing wrong with it, and whilst that may be true from a legal standpoint....most of us think it a bit ... untoward at best.

This post isn't about him though. It's about you. What's your age cut-off, both high and low for dating?

Well done on making the weekend. I guarantee that in 3-4 hours, when you're on your 30th 'Daddy can I?' if the day you'll be wishing you were at work.

Anyway. Thinking of making this a weekly thing. What do we think about that? A chance to let off some steam and generally just vent about our kids, the role of Dad or the wider world at large.

What's grinding your gears in your world right now?

I've finally got my daughter's party tomorrow. Despite handing out the invites some six weeks ago we're still getting people who are accepting the invite (do these people not check their childrens bags?). I think we've got everything in order, but I won't lie...I can't wait for it to be over and done with. I'm stressed, Mummy is stressed, the entire endeavour has cost £300 all in and suddenly the offer of financial help from my parents blew away like the flame atop a birthday candle.

How's your week been/going/expected to go

Last I looked they were almost a playoff guarantee, but now they're sitting outside the wildcard spots?

Howdy all! Just finished another shift diggin' for gold, and me beard is itchin' for a new vein to explore. What ~~mines~~ games have you been ~~spelunkin~~ playin' this week? Found any diamonds in the rough? Let's swap some nuggets of wisdom in the comments below!

8 year old me walking around with a collection of Shag Bands on my wrist. No idea what shagging was, but apparently I'd done a lot of it.

As their name suggests, forever (or evergreen) games are games that don’t have a finale or culmination, as in “The End”. These games have a very high replayability factor (meaning we enjoy playing them over and over again).

Forever games are also timeless. We can pick up these games anytime , be it the day they were released, or a few years later, and play them for months or years. We can even stop playing for a while, pick them up again years later, and they’d still be fun and relevant.

Yay!

Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for joining this lil' community to talk about video games. I'm surprised by how well it's going so far and I've enjoyed having, and reading some really good conversations about games.

So yeah. Thank you for posting, commenting and just being here, and here's to the next 200.
