I see. Some of them depend on the run, so hydroponics are a high priority in the desert but not in the jungle. But for the most part I go from left to right, probably skipping a lot of the early stuff that's made redundant too quickly. Power is probably my first focus, then security, then things for mood (drugs).

What is it that's wiping you? If it's just regular raids, you need to work on your defenses. As far as research goes, the automated sentries are a huge help. To be honest with you though, with a thorough understanding of the mechanics, I think you can survive indefinitely without any particular research.
