Not a Bears fan but the fact of the matter is that they look somewhat competent following that meltdown in Kansas City against the Champs. They're .500 in their last 8 games & had winnable games against the Broncos and Lions & probably could have won the Raiders & Saints games with Fields. The defense looks pretty solid.
I'm probably sounding like someone who should be sent to an insane asylum typing this out but is there ANY remote chance they retain Fields and/or dare I say Eberflus next season & give both of them 1 more year, especially if they keep winning to fall out of contention on their own 1st round pick?
On 2nd thought, probably not Fields LOL.
OK after thinking about it for a minute, while I believe Fields could have helped win the Saints & 1st Vikings if he doesn't get knocked down, the fact of the matter is that in Year 3, he still hasn't developed into an elite passer & it seems that he likely never will. Seems that his career ceiling is being in the same tier as Baker Mayfield, serviceable but good enough to not be replaced.
But luckily with the Panthers extremely likely to have the worst record in the league, they will get their choice of Caleb or Maye in the draft. The question is though considering how the defense has played the last several weeks, do you think Eberflus has done enough to return next season especially if Chicago finishes with 6-7 wins like many predicted before the season?
