Was thinking earlier about how, before becoming prominent crypto-Zionists, Radiohead were singing about the numbing effect of working in a cubicle job as a tiny cog in the machine of a monolithic consumerist society, but then thought - didn’t this band form at public school, paid for by their parents, and might they possibly never have worked a 9-to-5 in their life? And could they be cashing in on the aesthetic of pre-millennial salaryman angst as seen in many movies of the time such as Office Space, Fight Club, The Matrix, American Beauty, etc etc?

That’s gaffe though.

Also, little kids are going around in Nirvana t-shirts, so they can can all the “before my time” natter.

I’d say it is frustrating to watch one’s peers fall into obviously dumb traps that will blow up in their face, but that’s literally what it is to be a software engineer.

This is just “On Ilkley Moor Baht Hat”. Ye’d lose more heat than that too - it’s well parky up there.

What’s a chapter book?

Second The Book Of The New Sun - it’s dense and really rewards re-reading.

There’s also the Urth Of The New Sun, which sort-of concludes the story.

Some of this stuff is infuriatingly true about the Melbourne trams too, like there being too many stops and then the intersection light going red just as the tram is ready to set off again. Also, getting kicked off for early turnaround cos the schedule is so fucked.

Yep! Great example.

I don’t know how anyone is surprised by this, but many of my colleagues are still beavering away at MCPs that will likely grant bots access to permanently destroy data. Everyone’s going round and round the cycle where they start to believe the LLM is actually intelligent until it does something completely terrible, but then they fall for it again - “in six to twelve months the model will be so much better!”.

Instead of a DMZ you will have a urethra, not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn!

These things put me off music for years. Maybe next time start us with an instrument that doesn’t sound like total shit in beginners hands and which stinks of antiseptic.
