Yes, I figured. My domain name is not as cool as "shitjustworks" or whatever. But I can say that my instance is gonna stay for as long as Lemmy as software is supported, no matter if there are many users or not. I strongly believe that FOSS and the Fediverse are the future and I want to give something to the community by hosting the instance.

Well, I run an instance, too. It's not big at all, but I was thinking about the issue of scaling, too. You can only scale up a single server so much...

But on the other hand, Lemmy is still young. We'll find solutions to that problem.

Also, interesting article. I only took a glance at it, but having only two tables kind of suggests that Reddit is using a relational database. So, if they're not "normalizing" everything, why not use a completely different paradigm, like what MogoDB etc. has?

Yes, that's most likely the cause.

Well, don't flock to the same servers all the time. Check out join-lemmy.org or one of the other instance lists. My instance (social.fossware.space) still has plenty of space. 😅

Lemmy isn't hugged to death. The issue is that everyone is just heading to the same handful of instances.

Why did you post it to shitposting tho? This is pretty true and not a shitpost at all.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not disliking the project. I just think the design isn't that great. That's all. Glad it works well for you.

It's a turn-off for me that this is made up to look like an iOS app. I'm using an android phone and it's kind of weird to have the sudden switch between paradigms.

And all that money spent just to sit in a room with many people looking at their bright phones, talking to eachother, chewing loudly and causing a mess.

No, thanks.

Absolutely. I personally just need to... dial. And call. So either one works. SMS isn't as prevalent in my country as it might be in the US or elsewhere, so for that, the AOSP app is enough, as well.

But I get what you mean.

Yes, Native Alpha works really well. However, I faintly remember some "beef" between the developers where the Hermit developer claimed that Native Alpha doesn't fully isolate things.

Don't want to throw in false accusations here. It's just what I remember and I'm saying this as a heads-up for anyone concerned. But please take it with a grain of salt.

Thank you for posting your guide to Lemmy, too. Even though I'm not 100% d'accord with what you write (you can see that apps the community and I tend to use here), but it's always cheering me up to see that people are really passionate about FOSS and eager to show the world that "mostly FOSS" can easily be done on the Android platform.

I personally don't need many apps in this guide, as I'm using a custom ROM that already includes AOSP applications for basic tasks (caller, SMS, etc.). But I could imagine that if someone were to run MIUI or something similar, replacing the vendor apps with some of the Simple Mobile Apps, for example, makes sense. But in that case, I wouldn't even really trust anything, beause the underlying OS is full of proprietary stuff, which is concerning.

Also, some parts in your guide are outdated. For instance, Jerboa isn't the only working app for Lemmy, right now. It's my favorite, but there are many alternatives appearing by the day, as Lemmy takes off.

Anyway, thank you for being a part of the community. The upvote count once again prooves that there are quite some eyes on this community, too.
