Nah don't worry. sh.itjust.works is one of the more politically mild instances out there, perhaps only beaten by lemm.ee. Plus they host some very funny communities and very few blocked instances. Among the big players, it's one of the best picks for a home instance.

That's a fair concern. You can check the data for yourself on the awesome-lemmy-instances repository; alternatively I have made this tool to make the search more interactive and user friendly: defed.xyz.

Short answer to your question is: 410 is a lot. They are the second instance for number of defeds, only beaten by feddit.dk. Most big instances tend to have between 30 and 50 blocks, with the notable exception of sh.itjust.works which has only 5.

To give credit where credit is due, few of the instances blocked by beehaw actually run Lemmy and even fewer are active (2 or more monthly active users). This doesn't change the fact that it's a BIG number.

edit: pinging @Cube6392@beehaw.org as this partially answers their question.

It's up now. Not terribly active, unfortunately, but I love that someone had the dedication of creating one. And, as I said the meme, their theme is lovely.

I agree. I think relying too heavily on blocklists can be a detriment to the growth and decentralization of the Fediverse. Who even decides what ends up on them? Maybe you pass through the crossair of whoever handles that while they're having a bad day and boom, you're barred out of 2/3 of all the content.

Oh hey sup, looks like my meme got reposted to a spin off PCM community I wasn't even aware of, thanks for spreading the good word.

I suppose DIY folks would lean libright, something about wanting to fix your own stuff without having to rely on a community (communities tend to be associated with the left) + right to repair and wanting to do things your own way (libertarian).

... but of course without an instance or a community list to look at it's hard to tell @JoShmoe@lemmy.zip.

I don't disagree with that, I even said that much in the blahaj quadrant. I just wish there was an easier way to fix these problems instead of burning bridges, because they sure burn a lot of them.

Yeah sorry, these are the ones I've heard the most about / visit more often. I don't really know much about kbin at all. I think their shitty software makes them pretty much immune from fediverse drama, as you have no (easy) way of knowing which instances were defederated by a kbin one.

Smartphone: I've just said goodbye to my Honor phone after 5/6 years of service (can't remember how many precisely). Incredible lifespan for its price.

However repairability could be great. I've changed its battery once and screen a couple times, by the end of it the frame was about to break from all the times I had opened it.

Never heard of that but sure, nothing wrong with that. Kinda curious to ask, what the hell were you doing on a marxist sub if you're not a commie yourself?

Anyway, I'll bring that up to the other admins. Prolly gonna give you an update tomorrow.

Nah actually 2/4 of us are very excited about this. I'm just waiting for at least one of the other two to give his vote because I want to make this the right way. But personally I'd love to have such a community.

edit: to make it clear, the other two haven't logged in the Discord yet

The thing I like the most of Lemmy over Reddit is how straightforward the way I see the content is. Plenty of ways to sort your feed (personally I'm a fan of "new comments") and no bullshit algorithm to try and understand.

That and the fact that the frontend has pages, so I don't end up doomscrolling for hours.

To add to this discussion, the problem only arises when mentioning certain instances. I have a bot posting links to mine (lemmy.basedcount.com), has been for months now, and still no restrictions. Another cute trick (doesn't work for links, though) is writing Lеmmу with Unicode lookalike characters (you can copy it from here).
