The benefit, for me, is that it's like stuffing a piggy bank full of calmness. Later, when I need some calmness, I can reach in and grab it via the meditative practice.

I spend half the time on reddit as I spend here, and half that on facebook. I pop onto metafilter, tildes, and livejournal once a year or so.
I'm on blogger fairly often but only to read.

I'm taller. I'm a man in a female-dominated field (and was in my previous career, as well). I don't own a car and have no interest in doing so. I know a dead language. I eat beans for breakfast. I don't drink coffee.
There's no need to attack conservatives here. I'm just as concerned about the safety and prosperity of my unhoused neighbors as you are.
