Today's game is Prey. It's not my first go with this game, but last time i played i got right to the end and stopped. That was on Xbox Gamepass. I saw it was on sale on PC and decided to scoop it up and finally finish it. We'll see if i end up sticking through this, but i'd like too.

The game has a fun Physics engine where you can pick things up and just chuck them, which is the part i'm sure both myself and many others probably remember this game for. I spent the first 10 minutes ish of the games just chucking things at a NPC in the opening and at random stuff around the room.

Then there's also the hints the game provides towards the story at the very beginning. Now that i now the story it's a lot easier to pick up on these at the beginning, and it's cool seeing it hinted at. Though, if memory serves the game doesn't hold these secrets for very long. Nonetheless i think it's cool the game does this.

The game also has a little "alternate history" spin too it that i think is cool. I must have not picked up on this the first time, despite the huge ass painting in the museum of JFK in 2035. Speaking of the Museum, the game gives you a little one to explore that explains the alternate history which i think is cool.

Enough about the cool things this game does, there's also the combat. The game gives you a bunch of cool combat abilities. But the two core ones i enjoy is the Physics and Way the enemies interact with weapons.

Firstly, physics is awesome because in a pinch you can chuck things at enemies, and secondly, and this is the cheap ass strategy i use a lot, you can pick up Turrets and reposition them. I always keep a mental note of where all the turrets are so if i encounter an enemy i can grab the turret and basically mow it down.

Then the way the enemies interact with weapons, namely the main one which is the mimics, is really cool. The game gives you this cool Gloo gun which you can use to freeze the mimics for a bit and let you do extra damage. On top of that the Gloo Gun let's you use it for parkour, so i used it to skip a few sections.

One thing i will say is this game can be harsh at times, at least for me. Maybe i'm not playing right but i feel like i'm in a constant struggle for health. I ended up getting soft locked so i stepped back for a bit and stopped after getting into Morgan's office. I really want to finally finish this game though so i'm hoping i don't get bored and hop to something else like i usually do.

I'm excited for it. I played some of the Versions and they're awesome

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

It does! It has a lot of options too. You can do Splitscreen, or host just for friends, or hop on a server somebody else is making! If you're hosting the difficulty is also adjustable down to most major points

I can't wait for Build 42 to get Multiplayer. No rush to the Devs but that's the main thing stopping me from fully making the jump

It's a random event that spawns. I believe in lore it's scientists or reporters or something. The only effect really is that if you're outside the Helicopter follows you and all the noise calls Zombies to your location. I've seen a few mods that add different helicopter types though

Today's game is Zomboid. We only had an hour today so we decided to make the best of it and have a Cookout in our little group of 3. We wanted to make Burgers, but we lacked the bread. So we decided "Maybe there's some fresh bread somewhere?" and we go searching. My two friends go off together to search the houses while i search the Strip Mall. I got lucky and found 3 buildings with Raw bread in it in a fridge. Of course though, the game had other plans.

While i was heading to the last building the Helicopter Came. I was lucky to have it distracted by my friends for a bit and had some planks in my car and bag from Barricading. So i got them out and boarded up all the doors and windows. To hunkerdown. Remember that part where i said i only had an hour to play? That's where it went. it was like when a show has a low budget episode too fund the bigger season finale. Like Breaking Bad's Fly episode i hear so much about. The entire time was spent in hear trying to keep from being seen by zombies and staying alive. To make matters worse had sliced my hand open on accident on one of the windows while boarding it up, so i had to take care of that.

I ripped some clothes off a zombie in the back and used that to bandage it, then I had to take care of my hunger. Luckily there was some non rotten cookies on the table i could eat. In the back i also managed to find some tea i could drink which helped. I used the time i was making the tea to also make the raw bread i had gathered, so i did manage to find the bread.

At around 4 PM the Helicopter finally fucked off and i was able to sneak out the front door of the Hair Salon next door mostly unseen. I did have to sneak around a bit because there was a ton of zombies covering the area, but i got home safe and with the bread delivered. Since my time was up though i had too save the cookout for next time.

Today's game is some Halo MCC. I know this features a lot, but after finishing up The Last of Us i thought it'd be appropriate to kick back and relax with friends while playing some MCC Social Games. We're making plans to go through the Halo 3 & 4 Campaign on 4 player Co-Op at some point which will be fun, but we're waiting on one friend to finish up Halo 2's Campaign first.

We did about 5 matches today, and two of them i got screenshots from. The first was Halo Reach Headhunters, which was a blast. I don't think i've played this much in Social Games so it was fun to experience it. My team came close with around 45:50 points, but we ultimately lost.

I did manage to get a super satisfying kill be lobbing a good grenade at all 4 enemies who were clustered together, but i didn't get to collect it as their grenade took me out soon after. My teammates collected all the skulls luckily though.

I've come up with my favorite strategy using my favorite reach power up, and that's the Armor Lock. I had a lot of Good Luck using it in this game mode because if i got pinned down i could use it to hold on for just a bit longer until help got there. It saved me a few times. From what i understand armor lock isn't too popular, but fuck it's satisfying to use. Especially with the EMP blast if you use it all the way. I even caught the enemy team by surprise a few times with it because i guess they forgot about it knocking out shields.

We also did One Bomb in Reach which was a blast (pardon the pun). We lost, but fuck it was fun grabbing the bomb and rushing it. I got one score in before we lost and it was a fun time. The Map i'm a bit iffy on because i feel like it gives too much leverage too power weapons so once a team grabs them it's hard to win, but that's just my meta gaming opinion. I still had an awesome time playing it even though our asses were completely handed too us.

That's definitely for sure. I went back through a little bit in New Game+ today and just dicked around with some of the cheats like Explosive Arrows and once you take the stealth option out, by far, the gameplay time goes down. Still love the game though, not a flaw, just an observation

These are possibly my last few screenshots for the Last of Us. I say possibly because i'll be picking away at this game's collectibles in my spare time. I want to 100% it so it will be up there on my wall with the other games i've 100%. I also just don't want to hop to another game so fast. I'm hoping this will help me buffer out time while i figure out what to play next. I've mentioned having a few ideas but i'll probably bounce around for a bit.

The Left Behind DLC was awesome. It really built off the game in a way i loved. It gave Ellie's gameplay so much need expansions i feel like. The one or two sections she was in just felt kind of barren at times. With this she gets a lot more. I feel like this DLC really gives her time to shine.

Towards the end there was a Photo Studio with a bunch of photos on the wall. I spent a little time looking at them all, such as this one with the Cat. It was cute too see. A cat makes this instant 10/10 for me.

There was another too, this one didn't have the adorable bow tie though.

My time left with the DLC ended up being way shorter than i thought i had. So i want to wrap around with one final point, which is an idea that as far as i know the main game doesn't do. And that's the DLC letting you weaponize the Clickers. The last few encounters let me use bricks and bottles to draw clickers over to Hunters and take them out. It was fun, and i really hope the second game does more of it.

Recap is Definitely the best way to do it imo. I feel like the game is surprisingly short, but still can take a decent chunk of time

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

That's definitely the vibe i'm getting from people's descriptions. I was planning to pick the game up next sale, though with the different vibes i'm wondering if maybe putting some space between the games would be good

Today's game is The Last of Us Left Behind. The DLC is really short feeling, and while i'm enjoying the story it can feel a bit empty in a way? I suspect it's because you play as Ellie and she's kind of a glass cannon, so she gets far less combat encounters than Joel. On top of that she has far less crafting recipes and weapons to use. So the result is just that it feels a lot emptier. It's still a fun time though.

Specifically this is what i'm thinking of when i say empty. It just feels kind of barren for some reason. Maybe it's because the main game is a lot more packed than this.

Enough bitching about it though, i'm far more excited to talk about what i do like. The combat i'd say is a fun new experience. Because Ellie is the glass cannon i mentioned it forces you to play a little more differently. For example there's this one section with Stalkers in the dark. I had to avoid the stalkers and instead play it safe in this closed in ledge. Running around outside was risky so instead i brought them all to me in an enclosed space.

I'm enjoying seeing Ellie and Riley's friendship/pseudo romance too. Not going to be weird about it, but i do like their dynamic, i think they work well together, and it's especially sad knowing what happens to Riley. Both these stories taking place in a mall is cool too. I wish more flashback sequences did a parallels situation like this.

The arcade was a fun Uncharted reference. I did a little nosing around hoping for another one in the arcade but sadly there was none. The DLC is fairly short so i finished this section up and plan to finish the last two chapters tomorrow. After that i'll probably go to Red Dead 1 or Dead Rising 2. Don't be surprised if this shows up a few more times. I'm going to be picking away at this in the background to 100% it i think.

I'm planning to play the 2nd one first, but i'm not really sure there's a right way to do it i suppose

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I do at some point. I'll probably pick it up on sale at some point. I've heard mixed things about it but what i'm gathering it's just a different vibe than the first one.

Today's game is The Last of Us. I finished the main story today, and damn, am i not ready to let this game go. I'm in love with the Cyclical nature of the story (i'm a sucker for those kinds of plots) and the ending, amazing. I knew the gist of the ending so i thought it wouldn't hit as hard, but damn. I loved how bitter sweet it was. I like Joel's ultimate decision to save Ellie. It's selfish but it makes for such a bittersweet story.

For the main Screenshot i considered one of Joel running away with Ellie, but i think it was more appropriate to go with the top one, along with it plain looking better in my opinion.

I noticed this funny poster on the wall while running too. It's funny to see a 4th wall break like this. I just know somewhere on the internet this probably contributed to some sort of Dream Theory or something back when the game launched.

I also had Joel's model turned off in the Photo Mode on accident when i went too get the screenshot so i got this humorous photo of Ellie floating. Who knew she had psychic powers?

The walk to the hospital was a great chapter too. I loved the journey there and the fight with the infected was fun, albeit difficult. It was fun how calming it was, and nice to see Ellie enjoy herself after the events of the last chapter, especially with how it seemed to be weighing on her. It was cool too for the sudden drop, as in how suddenly the peace is interrupted by a large volume of infected before chucking you into a river. It really snapped me out of the false sense of security the game had kind of lulled me into.

I'm going to start Left Behind tomorrow, and then I think i want to try and 100% the game. I'm not quite ready to let it go yet and want to see all it has to offer so i think that will be my next goal. I'll probably go back to Red Dead 1 or Dead Rising 2 to play at the same time, i'll see though.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (6 children)

TV show is definitely next up on my list after i pick up Part 2

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

It is the remake! It does look really good. I haven't played the PS3 original but judging but Naughty Dog's similar output for the time i wouldn't at all be surprised if it look stellar too

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

I just completed it today, and i'm planning to go back and complete left behind tomorrow. I'm also thinking about trying to 100% it since it's not too much of a challenge and it's got some unique criteria i'd love to try and do. I'm not ready to let this game go lol

Today's game is some more of The Last of Us. I'm determined to see this one through to the end (and maybe a little addicted). I'm so upset i didn't pick this game up earlier, but with how the narrative is, it's probably for the best i waited until i could understand it. It really reminds me of the novel The Road, which i'm pretty sure the game referenced. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an inspiration too.

I got to the point where Ellie was fleeing from the guys hunting her and met David. I noticed that he kind of seems to be a mirror Joel which i think is intentional. Even down to his appearance is similar. It is a shame he turned out to be evil because i kind of like the guy when the game forced you to get along with him. Still though, much prefer Joel over him.

The fight with the Bloater in the room really caused me some problems. It took a few tries but Ellie is built like a glass cannon so i struggled a bit. Still though, i eventually made it and wiped the floor with the thing by throwing a ton of Moltovs at it.

I gotta say, this whole winter chapter too is shaping up to be one of my favorites. It's really pretty. I've always had a soft spot for snowy landscapes and this is no exception. I really hope we get more time here outside of being hunted by these guys.

I dont want to skip entirely over the Dam section though, so before i end off for tonight (and probably end up staying up late to play some more) here's a really gorgeous screenshot i got of this billboard. The game's effects are perfect and i just love the detail on how this rain is done. I was honestly mesmerized. I know it's just some lame rain, but damn did it look good.

Today's game is some more of The Last of Us. I made it all the way through the chapters with Sam and Henry, and damn, did their death's hit hard. They were only with me for a short while but i kinda got attached to them. Maybe it's because the game makes you feel so alone sometimes.

My favorite part so far has been the river. It's just so pretty that i kind of wish we got more time with it. Exploring the story of Ish was awesome too. It was cool seeing that narrative laid out for me to follow in the form of notes.

Earlier in the game I had noticed Ellie stopping to pick up the Toy Sam dropped, and it's a neat attention to detail that not a lot of games do. I know she carries it with her after Sam's death, but it would have been so easy for them to just say "oh, yeah, she picked it up off camera". But nope, they committed all the resources too it. It's just such a good detail.

During the stealth section with the spotlights i committed myself to the stealth too. I took out the guy patrolling the front, and then planted a few bombs. Then i knocked out the generator and bang. Everyone basically died without a shot fired. It took a good few tries but damn was it satisfying. It probably would have been easier if i had arrows, but oh well. I made due. I appreciate that these games arent just Shooters. Being able to use stealth adds a lot of charm i appreciate.

The ambient story telling is on point too. I was checking out this room and picked up the note, not noticing the blanket with the corpses under it. The note points out they their are kid's corpses probably in the room. When i put the note down and turned to look i noticed the blanket and had a "oh..." moment. It was really heartbreaking. But also really well done.

I ended off making my way through the suburbs and starting the Fall chapter close to Jackson. Now that i seem to have solved the issue it's addicting again. I'm excited to get back into it.

Today's game is (finally) some more of The Last of Us. I discovered the crashing i was having seems to be a combination of the game thinking my PC was a Steam Deck and thus messing with some Specs, and the game being a little too powerful. I lowered it down to High and everything seems good now. We'll have to see though for sure.

I finally managed to make it out of that damn hotel. It was an awesome segment but holy fuck did the crashing draw it out way too long. I'm now out on the streets again and i appreciate the change in environment.

They have a segment where you're being chased by an armored truck, and i'm starting to suspect the Naughty Dog loves their Armored Truck chases. Uncharted 4 had one too. Granted that was far more of a scripted sequences while this one is more like run and duck to cover. It's not a bad thing though. It was a lot of fun doing this segment and i loved sneaking past it on the ledge.

While i was in the Basement segment and dealing with the Bloater, i struggled a bit with it. I ended up using a combo of the Shotgun and Molotovs. Even with that it was a bit of a challenge due to the narrow hallways. On the plus side though i got this sick (albeit dark) photo of the Bloater in a scuffle with Joel.

While playing i keep noticing a series of parallels between this and Uncharted 4. I'm not sure why but i feel like i've seen this exact scene before in Uncharted 4 as well only on Libertalia.Maybe i'm just over analyzing things, but damn is this fun to be reminded of.

Overall though, i'm glad to resolved the issue i was having and picking up the game again. I really didn't like living it unfinished so starting it up again is fun.

Today's game is Flyknight. A friend gifted this too me on Steam, and from what i can tell it's a little Dungeoncrawler where you play as a fly. Finally, my biggest fantasy has been fulfilled! It has multiplayer which is why he gifted it to me, and honestly, while i'm not a fan usually of Dungeon Crawlers, it's good fun to go through with a friend.

I named my Character Dan. I made them skinny as fuck for some reason and pale. It contrasts nicely with my friends character Sir Buzzing.

I've picked a sword as my weapon of choice in this game. From what i understand the player has three slots for weapons, this one is just my favorite though. I swapped to a one handed one and a shield though for maximum defense. The combat in this game is pretty basic but fun. The best way i can think to describe it is like Skyrim. You have the swing with stamina, the block, and the spell. You also have to drink potions to heal.

Potions refill at Campfires and give you 4 charges to use, which is nice. The combat isn't to challenging. Especially if you get the hang of the parry system.

The game also features fishing which is nice. I legit love when games have optional fishing mechanics (looking at you Red Dead Redemption 2). Me and my Friend have a tradition of just fishing in games too relax. We've done it in Red Dead, we did it in VRChat one time when we were dicking around with it, and we do it in Zomboid too. We just enjoy anything except real fishing.

We stopped for the night because we had no clue how long this dungeon is and didn't want to keep pushing on. We ended for the night with my friend trying to get an air assault on me. What he didn't know was that i learned my lesson from Halo PvP and found an item that blocks friendly fire. SO NOW i'm the only one that can commit friendly fire. Knowing the two of us i will (not) use this power wisely.

Today's game is Old School Runescape. I was in the mood to hop on and mess around in the game, so i booted it up and did the Cake Quest (finally). It took me a while to find the bucket for the milk, but i eventually did it. While i was looking for the Dairy cows i found these goblins watching the Cows. I don't know if they're busted or Runescape's goblins are friendly, but they don't seem to attack me. I sat back and watched for a while until a player came by and slaughtered the cows and i went back to looking for the dairy cows.

Finding the bucket was difficult, and i spent a good 10 minutes looking. But eventually i found one in the basement of the Castle. I also made sure to grab a jug i needed for the flour nearby so i could future proof.

While searching for the mill i found another goblin, this one just watching the ducks. He seemed like a chill guy and i watched the ducks with him for a bit.

Finally though, i returned to the castle and turned in everything for the cake. It took me nearly 2 years to finally get around to this quest (the fact that i usually only hop on to dick around doesn't help either) but i finally did it. I even got a shiny little achievement for it. I was going to also look into buying a house tonight but it turns out the Houses are reserved for members only and i'm not really down for paying for a subscription for this game (or really any game).

Instead i left my player to squat in this random house with a cat i found until i finally log back on to mess around again half a year later. If he's anything like me he'd appreciate the cat.

Today's game is Dead Rising 2. I've had this in my library for a bit and with me still trying to debug whatever is going on with The Last of Us i had to get my Zombie fix somehow. I got this from a Humble Bundle at some point, so I decided to give this a try. And can i just say? Where the fuck has this game been all my life? There has been a Trashcan being thrown at zombies shaped hole in my heart that this game just filled. It takes itself so fucking seriously and then let's me look like an utter fucking moron by making this guy do the stupidest shit imaginable. I stole a Wheelchair from a zombie pushing it and then proceeded to run everyone over with it. NO OTHER GAME LET'S ME FULFILL THIS ODDLY SPECIFIC FANTASY.

It's a bit merciless with the save points, but i honestly had a lot of fun just browsing around the store. There was one i stopped by on my way back called In The Closet which caught me by surprise with that joke. I was going to stop by and look at what was in there but I was in the middle of an escort mission so i had to hurry to get this lady home.

And despite how stupid this game lets you be, it's somehow the most serious thing ever too. The main character has to get Medicine for his daughter, and already i would be willing to protect this child with my life. This digital collection of polygons and classes is the most innocent thing ever and i refuse to let anything happen to it.

I mentioned rescuing a survivor, Denyce. I was initially hesitant to escort her home but i gave her a baseball bat and she did a pretty good job of fending for herself so i'm not too worried now. I do wish there was a run button but i can't complain too much because i'd probably end up getting myself killed with it.

I ended off after delivering Denyce here safe and sound to the saferoom. This game is definitely a fun romp, i had to wait a bit though to get the Character's daughter her medicine though and i wasn't sure what to do with the time. I think i need to go back to this game at some point though, if only so i can throw benches at zombies.

I also found Kirby, the celebrity life style must have taken a toll on the poor guy, looks nothing like the games.
