Haven't played anything in the battlefield series since bf2. Not surprised on this however, they gotta protect their profits. If someone was to create an anti-cheat for use on Linux it would make them a fortune.

This was taken with my old camera and even with filters everything looked blue. Anyway pulled up to look in the coral and see if anything was hanging out and saw this pair of shrimp near the bottom. They slowly came up to the top and offered me a cleaning, the rest of the group had already moved off a bit so I couldn't hang around for too long.

I believe this and other things were included in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T0AKDo28WE

My images are stills from video that I have taken on my dives around the US and the Caribbean. https://www.youtube.com/@MuttMuttOutdoors/videos

I want to say a version of this was posted yesterday as well.

This was a very nice dive in Mahahual Village Mexico. If I get a chance I'm going to try and go down for a couple months and dive a couple times each day with my 117's.

Yeah, before then you just stunk.

Some cultures started bathing but many did not until later on. The "Dark Ages" was a time where bathing was nearly nonexistent and cleanliness wasn't even in people's minds. People would relieve themselves in buckets and just toss it out the window.

Here is a really good one. Look up information about the Palace of Versailles, huge building with tons of rooms and huge parties with tons of lord's and ladies' eating and drinking but no bathrooms. People would relieve themselves in the stairwell's. That is why the upperclass wore tons of perfume, to overcome the stench. Modern society has come a long way in just a few hundred years.

The main article talks about the game you can use to learn some linux commands and concepts.

The game's themselves are l located at https://overthewire.org/wargames/

The wargames offered by the OverTheWire community can help you to learn and practice security concepts in the form of fun-filled games.

This Grouper was really hanging around during the dive but this was one of the best shots I got. Before this happened I actually had to put some of my rescue skills to use. https://lemmy.world/post/33388878

I remove almost everything that is considered breaking current events. Someone is going to do something stupid to someone else. Disasters are going to happen. Wars are being fought (IMHO WW3 had already begun and everyone is trying to stay out of it like the US did in WW2) just that everyone is avoiding it. I have watched a local to me longlines station have a lot of new activity and a person is living there in a travel trailer but two years ago it was basically defunct. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfHyy-4W5X0 is an example of a different one but gives an idea of the use.

All this crap happens and there is nothing I can do about it nor does it help my daily life. I get a little bit of local news directly from their site and everything else is related to tech or science. I also block Javascript on the browser I use for news feeds, it prevents headlines from other crap being shoved into articles I choose to read on many sites and if breaks a site I just remove it from my feed.

I'm also doing a lot of repairs on a 100 year old house while I live in it, trying to work towards teaching people who have dealt with childhood trauma and others with PTSD how to SCUBA dive for free, and doing my best to stay sane with everything that has happened in my life.

This barracuda had literally just swam through the group about 4 feet away from the other divers and myself. After it passed for some reason it decided to look up a little bit.

A little bit later we had an Eagle Ray go right past the group. Had some really good dives that week.

For anyone wondering I'm using a DJI Action 4 in a housing mounted on my DIY FigRig. https://www.muttmutt.us/my-current-camera-setup/

One of the best dives I have had in Cozumel. This ray was within ten feet of me and I had just had a closer encounter with a barracuda.

I tried switching multiple times as well over the years. Often kept an older computer running linux but wine was a major pain to get working with everything. Steam and Proton has been amazing. I'm running Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04LTS with a GTX1080ti and outside of it being an older gpu it all runs really well.

I was a DOS kid and understand how to move around and do a few other things but feel more comfortable with a GUI for most stuff. FreeBSD feels better to me for command line stuff for some reason but I have been using only open source operating systems for over a year.

My stepson's computer is running ChimeraOS (an immutable distro) and outside of a networking issue I had to fix by removing the profile and adding it in again it had worked perfectly. He has a RX 7600 GPU however.

It's worth making the effort and a lot easier now than it used to be. I started trying around 2005.

This could be especially good for new users who do not understand the command line or those who have used the command line on another os and need to understand the command usage on Linux.

Honestly depends on what it is. I have four pentium pro's sitting here that at current value are worth about 100 each.

Some parts can be desired in the retro gaming community.

You may be better off doing what I try to do. Fix them up and install Linux. Then give them to someone who could use it. I left a laptop with a dive operation while I was there so they could give it to a school. I installed linux and a few other things and grabbed a copy of Wikipedia so they could take it to a community without internet and still have some access to the knowledge. I threw in a copy of python and rust to support programming as well as some learning applications and videos. I stuffed a 320GB hdd till therewas only about 10GB of free space. I wish I had more to take down but space was limited.

Got to see these guys on the reef in Cozumel Mexico. Honestly wish I could spend a month or two diving there. The dives were truly amazing that day. I will post some pictures from those over the next few days.

I think it's more about what children see in front of them and what they see as role models. With the internet age we see people making tons of cash fast. Many years ago we had cops and doctors on TV among other things and that is what kids wanted to be.

Simply put kids emulate and want to become what they see. That is part of the reason why some parents want more control over what things their children are exposed to. Many of those parents also want to sit in front of a screen vs actually spending time with and teaching their children.

It doesn't help that everyone is more worried about making a fast buck vs doing something that will help others lives be better. I just wonder what kind of abuse will be handed out by parents from a generation that is almost completely self centered.

Saw this guy while diving off of Roatan a few months ago.

As with most of my content this is a still from video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmIC6FEcrh4

This happened in Roatan with a combined group from Jewel and Harmony of the Seas, so I figured I would share with everyone as a lesson and urge those with some experience to continue in your education. For anyone wondering I am PADI Rescue certified.

I was buddied with an older woman who was open water certified, as we were both traveling alone. The first dive she was cold to the point where I saw her hand visibly shaking so I got her out of the water asap. She rented a wetsuit and they added a few extra pounds. The second dive maximum depth was 60 feet and we were dropping in right near the edge of the reef. I started my decent and leveled off near the top of the wall around 50 feet with the rest of the group and checked my buddies position she was a couple feet away near the dive master in a vertical position watching her console and equalizing. She was a few feet behind the edge of the wall and continued descending. She had froze and was fixated. The dive master and guide were making noise and she would look up but could not see through her bubbles. Once I realized she was not stopping I began to descend with her. She was about 15 feet below me when she finally hit the bottom at 100 feet... thankfully we were not over the area where it drops to 300 to 1000+ feet. I again signaled for her to come up and she acted as if she was stunned and just stood there. I descended to her and she showed me her console. She never added a single whisper of air to her bcd.

I tucked her console into her bcd under her arm and added a little air to mine and grabbed her inflator with my left hand and her cylinder valve with my right and began to add air to her bcd until we began to rise. I swam upwards towing her and along with me until we got to 50 around feet and rejoined the group. The dive master and guide had stayed behind with the main group. Our accent was pretty much uneventful and I got her leveled off and stabilized with a neutral buoyancy and we completed the dive.

It still gives me chills to think what would have happened if she was over deep water and I had not been there. I know I would have dumped my air and hauled ass to get to her but if I hadn't been there she would have likely been lost...

She was open water certified and claimed that she stopped counting after 50 dives. She was overconfident in her skills even after freezing up and requiring someone to come get her. And insisted that she didn't need to get any more training.

Even if you are only diving a couple times each year achieving rescue diver is an admirable goal as it will also help you keep your head in a potentially bad situation. I always want every person who goes into the water for a dive to come home safe and sound even if you are not diving with me.

This guy was hanging around for a little while looking for a bite to eat. He eventually came up to check out one of the guys and I got this picture. Saw a small pod of dolphins on the reef on my dives there as well. Actually was the third time I have seen dolphins on a reef, first was in Montego Bay Jamaica when I was doing my advanced open course, second was diving near Sandy Bay, Roatan.

Was diving with Sea Sports Belize when this guy decided to come by. This is just a still from the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAtSXg0dDk0 if anyone is interested.

It's more personal preference and use case than anything.

Gaming dedicated versions are nice if you really only plan to game. Bazzite, ChimeraOS, Garuda, along others are available. ChimeraOS is what I installed on my stepson's pc and outside of a network issue it has worked pretty well. He is happy and since he mainly uses his android tablet for web browsing and whatnot, it's perfect for me to not need to do a bunch of troubleshooting issues. I've tinkered with Garuda but I'm not convinced it's for me and I dislike anything with a Mac feel.

I use an Ubuntu based system (Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04LTS) with a 5800X and GTX1080TI because I want stability and the ability to edit video, game, manage websites, manage our home services, along other things.

Instead of asking which one you should use go out and try some demos and look at your intended use case.

Made the switch myself about a year ago. Installed 24.04 LTS and it has done very well.

My main issues have been dealing with a few things I run not playing the nicest with ubuntu or when trying to flash ESP8266 or ESP32 boards through the web browser.

Gaming wise everything I have installed via Steam works fine though sometimes needs a reboot.

Overall been happy with it and glad to get off the forced upgrade with bloatware train.

I'm using TP-Link Omada series access points and they are amazing. You can run them off of a power brick or POE (power over ethernet) and put then anywhere that you can run ethernet. They can also work in mesh mode if desired and are not super expensive. Combine them with the OC200 controller or run the controller software on an always on PC and they work flawlessly.

You can pick your preferred wifi version and upgrade to a newer version later on by just changing out the access points and adopting them into the system.
