I'm willing to grant that it's possible these slang terms were more animal related than slave related. I do have to point out that your snopes link, although it mentions a false etymology related to slavery, is about the term bucks to mean dollars. Which of course comes from deer hides. I think buck referring to money and buck referring to young slave men are different etymologies.
What I wrote was how I heard it, and I don't remember when or where. Like I said, it's possible I'm wrong, but I do not concede that you have refuted my argument.
Heads up, snopes had kind of a hostile takeover situation. They were being transparent about their funding and expenditures until the past four years. I have no doubt what you linked is correct, but snopes is no longer the final word on the internet that it once was.
I worked with an old Navy veteran at the time of the J6 riots. We didn't know about it while we were working, but we both watched it on TV in our hotel rooms. Now this guy was extremely conservative. He once told me that the only thing he's found to be consistently true in life is that you can never trust a Democrat. The next day we got some coffee and I asked him what he thought about it.
"They should have been shot."
He was also mildly racist against anyone who wasn't white. I asked him what he thought would have happened if a group of black people had pulled that shit.

Guh. All that sucks. I have some friends who were born in India, and they have told me the worst thing about being from that culture while living in the US is random Indians asking them to do things or give them a discount or even free stuff. Not all Indians do this of course, but it's enough to complain about.
