Well that's a left-field response. He's not just employing friends and family, he's also employing loyalists who've garnered favors from him (because of their loyalty). And it isn't just a business, it's a government

I would employ my family if I could, but I sure as hell wouldn't choose them over qualified professionals, whether it's a business or a government. I'm sure as shit not gonna have someone with no financial expertise running my accounting, no matter how much I love them.

Don't make everything political and start stirring shit, we have enough of that right now

A Christmas Fucking Miracle in My Ass

Not if you're using the back-facing camera (like flipping the phone around, or doing 'mirror selfies'). Given the angle of this photo though, it doesn't seem like that's the case

None of that, "I'll do it in a few minutes, I won't forget" nonsense. I absolutely will forget. I can set an alarm for 10 minutes, but then I'm doing something else already and I'll silence it, thinking "oh yeah, I almost forgot! I'll do that just as soon as I'm done doing..."

Nope. Bring groceries inside. Go pee. Unload groceries. Return bags to car. If I follow those steps, I'll remember lol

I've been written off as "absent-minded" (yet everyone seeks my advice for major life shit)

I feel this in my bones. My family has always labeled me as "aloof, absent-minded, head in the clouds"... and somehow always seem to forget that I'm the one that shows up or gets called when shit goes sideways

I've tried to accept that it's just an "endearing" label from them, and they don't actually believe I'm unreliable... because they still (individually) fall back on me whenever they need someone to come through. I'm an "aloof crisis hotline" I guess

Thank you; I'ma have to dig-in a little as to what html and markdown are, and how I can understand them better. I always feel like I'm missing some kind of "common knowledge" when it comes to the intermingling of internet/network/program-language. I'm no programmer either, but forever curious

Knowledge is power and it's fun to share!

I guess the exclamation point (!) is what tells lemmy to embed the link. I wonder if that works with non-image url's?

Edit: Huh... nifty. And that's where my knowledge hits a wall, cause I have no idea what's happening in the background, where one url can be embedded as an image, and the other shows up as a "'obj' box". I just don't understand enough to know what makes an "image" embedable

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

Huh, this is what I see

But when I click on the small "obj" box, I can see this image

Both of those embedded images, I saved to my phone and inserted using the Boost app. I wonder if I copy and embed your posted-image-link manually, will you also see just a "clickable 'obj' box"? Let's see...

Maybe it has something to do with the app loading it to an instance's "pictrs" first? That's way above my knowledge though

Edit: I see someone already helped you get it sorted out! Yay, we all learned something today

What does the "MAU" stat mean? "'Something' Active Users"?

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Reddthat.com updated as well... dunno how big our instance is, in comparison, but I didn't know the update dealt with embedded images in PM's. I appreciate the info!

For anyone not clicking the link, but wondering what this reply means... it's a link to the user's comment (right below, within this comment chain) about a lemmy update

I was confused for a sec and probably would've skipped over all of the context because I didn't continue reading first (and I hesitate to click links randomly), so maybe someone else with no attention span will benefit as well

"Lemmy update v0.19.11 provides 'Dont render images in private message'

Not every instance is updated to this version, but it should stop the current method of spam (if updated). I'm wordy, I know; but maybe it'll help someone
