I’ll be streaming it tomorrow evening. If you click on the image at the top of the article it’ll take you to the stream site with information about exact time… You can see it played and decide if it’s right for you.

It was one of my first posts. I am excited about about Forgive me Father II. The story and the art are well done (putting it mildly). I’m trying to get an interview with the dev so I can write an article on the second one and stream it on release.

That’s all I needed to hear. I’m trying to make it a daily thing, but, since it’s a hobby… no guarantees. Thanks for commenting, I wish you well.

I have a problem with that reasoning. Quake copied Doom and Doom copied Castle Wolfenstein using your logic. They aren’t “copying” them. They’re paying homage to the graphical style and/or combat style they created. Your approach also seems to ignore the fact many have entirely new mechanics. Colas are a “sub genre” of sodas even though they copied Cokes formula… I think you’re being a bit absolutist without a reason.

I wan’t aware of that. Thanks for pointing it out. Now I’m going to have to see if I can build a page that shows speedrun status for each boomer shooter I write about.

[–] MrEUser@lemmy.ninja 1 points 2 years ago

I believe it does. It’s truly the MOST boomer shooter I have played recently.

Don’t forget Ultrakill to complete the trifecta! You have to admit, a game mechanic where you bathe in the blood of your enemies to heal up is at least intriguing.

My favorite right now is BoltGun. I wish THAT would come to iPadOS (I admit it, my daily driver is an iPad). That said I AM looking forward to the release of the Black Labyrinth DLC.

No. I don’t own a CRT anymore.

Here’s another from February of 2021, so yes, used for years.

[–] MrEUser@lemmy.ninja 1 points 2 years ago

Inverse used it at least two years ago. We done here?

  • Rookie Level 1 Gamer: “They’re called boomer shooters because they’re old like baby boomers”
  • Veteran Level 20 Gamer: “Baby boomers thought Doom was satanic, that’s a stupid term”
  • Enlightened Level 60 Gamer: “They’re called boomer shooters because of the huge debt they owe to the original Doom modding scene and therefore “Boom”, one of the first limit-removing source ports”
  • GigaChad Level 80 gamer: “Who cares. My ego isn’t so delicate as to have my sensibilities offended by whatever the fuck you want to call it. If you think something like ‘MyHouse.wad’ is something that is for “bOoMeRs” (a.k.a. anyone old enough to know that it’s called a “VCR,” not a “VHS player”) then you’re the one missing out… not me.” Credit to @smart_boy@beehaw.org and @133+.pk3@geocities.ytmnd.com

Byte Barrel's "Forgive Me Father" is a distinctive retro-styled FPS that blends '90s shooter gameplay with the dark themes of H.P. Lovecraft’s works. The fast-paced game, with its gritty and comic-book-esque aesthetic, lifts themes from Lovecraft's “Call of Cthulhu” and “The Shadow over Innsmouth.” Players can adopt the role of a male priest, favoring a slow and defensive playstyle, or a female journalist, designed for more aggressive players with shorter spell cooldowns. Drawing comparisons to "Doom" or "Blood," the game features claustrophobic levels filled with cultists, zombies, and other monsters. Players can wield an array of Prohibition Era weapons, including a six-shooter, a Tommy Gun, and a unique gun that shoots ball lightning, along with a variety of magic spells such as a healing cross and a room-clearing voodoo doll.

Trepang2, a highly impressive first-person shooter (FPS) heavily influenced by Monolith's F.E.A.R, is set to be released on Steam on June 21. The recent announcement of the release date was accompanied by an exciting trailer showcasing the game's intense and gory combat, as well as providing glimpses into its storyline. Players assume the role of "106," a powerful supersoldier who has managed to escape from a research facility owned by the suspicious Horizon corporation. Rescued by a paramilitary group aiming to dismantle Horizon, you embark on a mission to seek revenge against those who imprisoned you. The game's action is visually stunning, featuring extravagant effects and a bullet-time ability that allows you to witness the impact of explosions rippling through the environment. Trepang2 also introduces new elements to the first-person "gun-fu" mechanics of Monolith's original game, such as dual-wielding weapons, using enemies as human shields, and employing grabbed enemies to disorient or eliminate other foes by throwing them around or shooting the grenades on their belts. You can get a [FREE DEMO].(https://store.steampowered.com/app/1164940/Trepang2/)

“Boomer shooter” is the latest term to follow the likes of “Roguelike” or “Soulslike” in the realm of hyperspecific gaming subgenres. It applies to first-person shooters that intentionally harken back to the classic PC games of the late ‘90s like Doom and Quake.

June 20 at 18:00 hrs (6p.m. MDT) I will be streaming the #Cthulhu #boomershooter #retroFPS Forgive me Father, from Byte Barrel. We will get to see what looks like hand drawn art in a Lovecraftian setting. All the cult members will have an an opportunity to see if even death may die. Cthulhu Fthagn! Join us with an old fashioned, a beer, or even a hearty glass of milk…

That IS milk, right?

Remember… friends let friends drink and B.S.

I thought the point of a fediverse was distribution making it so that no one site becomes death star sized. If one site has ALL the biggest communities… What happens if that site goes down? Shouldn’t each site that wants one have a “Tech” community, and then those get aggregated into Tech? Wouldn’t that be a better approach? Doesn’t it make more sense that no one site has so many users the server can’t handle the load (been waiting for over a week for subscriptions on lemmy.ml to complete). Before someone feels the need to explain to me what they think a federation is, I’ve taught the subject. The point I’m trying to make is… Why do we keep pretending that being the biggest is a benefit, when it is directly detrimental to the architecture that we are using? #justanotheridiot #whatdontiget #federationday

P.S. before anybody goes out of their way to be offended, my hash tags are an attempt at self deprecating humor.
