I take this as a sign, I shall pray with a colander on my head and see what happens

It's alright. Highlight of it was watching Nosferatu last night. Loved it. I regret not going to see it in cinemas when it came out last year

Is this what I'm doing wrong? Do I need to try until I find a god that answers?

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 3 points 3 days ago

Absolutely the mouse

Tar on toast is fine though

Depends on how much money you want to spend. People here giving pointers on cleaning sources of smells and I second that, but to answer your question, three things work for me to actually make my home smell like something in particular:

1- Essential oil diffuser. IMO the most effective, the downside is that not all essential oils are as fancy as, say, the fragrances of the other options in this list. Also you have a bit of an investment upfront, diffuser+oils. But they last reasonably long.

2- Reed diffusers: vast variety of prices here, the pricier ones are nicer and last longer. The downside is that the scent will lose effectiveness with time. Usually I can't smell the oil once it's reaching a quarter left unless I pick a reed and smell the oily end. YMMV depending on how large and how ventilated the area is.

3- Scented candles: again, you get what you pay for. Honestly it's usually the big very expensive ones the only ones that really work. Also, fire, so that's a potential hazard if you have pets/kids. IMO they can work if they're good, but they don't last as long, meaning, more expensive.

So yes I hope this helps. Good luck

Lots of numbers in the article, it's a straight to the point read if you're interested, but here's the thing: the increase is a direct result from the tariffs. Mexico still sells in spite of them. Apparently US will increase the tariffs for mexico to 30% in August

I feel somewhat reassured knowing that it's a human making decisions at the end of the chain on the other end. I appreciate your perspective! I'm sure you must have seen your share of stuff while on that job...

An electric weighing system? I didn't even know that existed on bins

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 5 points 6 days ago

You're right that I'm surprised by the honor system, not arguing that. I don't know, I figured they could perhaps cross check automatically with some database such a driver's license but, guess not . What you said makes absolute sense.

As the title says. I've been listening to some synth, some alternative rock, some electronica. But I find a lot of the music I usually listen to doesn't sound that great in my car. And I also find I'm more open to different music genres while driving.

I'm curious to know what you're into, if you want to share artists then the more the better.

Same wifi network. On my laptop I can access the website, no issues without VPN. On my phone, there's just no way unless I activate my VPN.

I tried searching about it but the closest results I found say it's an ISP issue, some apparently block the Archive. If that was the case then I'd need VPN for both devices, right? So it's got to be another reason, yes?

I didn't find anyone saying they experience the same as I am, I suppose because I suck at searching I guess.

Since they don't technically fry... Or do they? They're basically mini electric ovens. What's the difference between an air fryer and an electric oven, other than size and energy consumption?

Disclaimer: I'm not American, I don't live in the US

JD Vance didn't exist in my life before he became vice president. Now, I am aware that I also don't know anything about most vicepresidents in the world. But I've seen a lot of people who are also USA outsiders making comments about him as if implying something else, as if relying on facts everyone ought to know. I get the feeling most people have already heard about him from before and I'm late to the party.

So, what do I need to know, other than his political affiliations? Yes, we all know who the president is and that says a lot, but, is Vance notorious for anything else?

I needed to vent about this somewhere, thanks

I prefer YouTube as the platform but I'm also open to suggestions elsewhere.

Basically I'm looking for long-ish format episodes I can listen to while doing something else. Ideally the host isn't just a voice reading a text, but someone relatable or that shows enthusiasm and/or has a personal take/ humor about the topic they're talking about.

I sometimes listen to Simon Whistler's videos on a variety of topics, in case you know him, I find he's entertaining enough and his writers are usually good but I'm looking for some more variety.

I've tried Stuff You Should Know and the Oologies series and while the content seems well researched, I found them a bit boring for me.

Got any recommendations?

Not so long ago YT introduced age restrictions and this every now and then prevents me from watching the video through NewPipe. NewPipe can't play age restricted content.

I have the option to log in to YT and watch the video with ads in the browser, but I would appreciate an alternative. Wondering if you guys have any recommendations. Thanks.

Saw a comic recently about this topic and got me thinking. I know what "the talk" is about since it appears in so many media but I don't ever recall having such an experience personally. Did you? What was it like?

I was a late 80s kid, just for context. As far as my experience goes, my parents were very open about sex as a natural process for reproduction. They answered openly any questions I had whenever I had them, keeping to the bare minimum necessary but never avoiding the topic- also never using metaphors as a substitute for plain facts ie. "the birds and the bees".

So at about age 5 or so I was already aware about how reproduction worked on animals, us humans included. As I kept growing up of course I kept connecting the dots on any social aspects of sex and relationships (ie that is supposed to be pleasant, that people do it even if they're not planning to have babies, etc) but I never had a moment of shocking realization regarding sex. I often found it stupid how some of my classmates would giggle or lower their voice when talking about anything sexual like, well, like it's a taboo. And I was often disappointed at how much of what my classmates knew wasn't exactly true, which at the time I chalked to their stupidity, although obviously it wasn't their fault. They were misinformed.

By the time kids got to sex ed in highschool they already had their facts pretty much right though, fortunately.

So I'm curious about your experiences about this while growing up. Was yours similar to mine or did you sit through some awkward conversations? How did you feel about it all?

I hate it. And this is the right place to rant about it, right? I don't mind people confusing your and you're, or then for than, but when I read "seperate" my eyes cringe. It's painful.

AAAAAAAGH

WHY.

:( fuck it

A few minutes ago two accounts on lemmy.ml started spamming pretty much every community on the instance with some crypto mining trash.

Moderators also noticed because all those posts are gone now, good job btw. Then I remembered, wait, doesn't .ml have an application process to filter spam and bots? Out of curiosity, I went to have a look at the users profiles and both accounts were about two years old, with no activity.

Are these hacked accounts? Is that an easy thing to do? And how can one prevent it from happening?
