Adds to the thrill

Iirc it might also be the only and last decent one left around, but I'm not really keeping up with news. My Proton subscription will also lapse in a couple months so I might have to ask for Lemmy's advice on the matter again.

I feel for you. Translation has been under threat way, way before anything like an LLM was around.

I remember some fifteen years ago or so, having to translate my high school qualifications in order to apply for the Australian permanent residency. I had to pay hundreds to some australian government office to do this translation, from Spanish to English. They had the audacity to ring me to ask me about a few words that "Google translate couldn't find". It was so infuriating on so many levels.

Anecdotaes aside, I hope what you say turns out to be true, would love to see more investment in general favoring the arts.

Are you on their VPN? What service will you go for if so?

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 7 points 5 hours ago

You are not alone and just in case I'm not west european

Okay so I know not to ask any Patricks or ghosts to do pottery with me from behind. Hate when someone else controls my desktop remotely

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 9 points 15 hours ago

I haven't noticed anything in particular, which country are you talking about?

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 3 points 22 hours ago

Nosferatu, absolutely loved it

A kid. Probably around 10 or so. I don't ever remember planning that, in fact my goals were to have a good work life balance and trying to be myself as much as possible, even if that meant being a bitch to people. Within reason of course, not taking advantage of others.

I didn't know about resonance either, that's interesting. It would take a lot though, it's an eight lane wide bridge+ trains in both directions+ pedestrian walkways on both sides.

Even if it paid what it says. Even if it paid double. Nope. It's disgusting. I refuse to voluntarily hone this monster

Also thanks for your kind wishes

I just need to rant somewhere. I've been looking for work for a long time, and so LinkedIn is part of the sites I regularly check for jobs.

Today I had a message from some asshat saying they've launched an AI marketplace and behold, they need my help to improve it! I could be making thousands a week detecting fringe cases that AI isn't yet good at solving! And I could be making friends with like minded assholes I mean creative experts helping AI!

Doesn't it sound like a dream???

The worst part is that I don't think it was a scam. For sure one wouldn't be making thousands per week, I'm sure that's misleading, but the rest of the platform sounded believable enough. Which means there's going to be plenty of "experts" flocking to it.

Curious if you have this option where you live and how it works.

So I'm housesitting and the people that live here left their bins about 3/4 full. The collection is fortnightly here in Sydney.

I put the bins out at the right time like every other neighbor, but the next morning all bins were empty, except mine.

I was told to make an online claim to the council, and I did, thinking it would be completely ignored. Their website says that if you put the bins out and they miss collecting, they'll come back and pick it up in two business days. I just entered my name, address and phone and to my surprise, sure enough, after the weekend they came and picked up just my bin. Nobody requested any proof of my claim, they didn't even reply or confirm they were going to do it- they just did it. They also didn't care that my name isn't listed as a resident of the address I gave.

Happy days I guess. But this got me thinking, how do they know the fault is on their side and not mine? How do they prevent people from abusing the system? Do they have dashcams they check to see? Or the number of people asking for collection is so low that they just don't care? Does anyone know?

Imagine you had a car and somehow you manage to paint/mark it so it's identical to any other police car in your area. Assuming you don't use the siren lights ( or, hell, it's your car, do whatever you want) for how long you reckon you can drive that around before someone picks up on it?

This is the right community for this question, right, it has to be

Privacy friendly ftw. I'm not satisfied with the amount of post processing mine does to images, I have little to no control over it. It's like it adds very aggressive blur and sharpen filters for everything, and when you zoom up everything looks "blobby".

My previous phone took way better photos, and I still use it if I need something looking a bit better. But it would be nice if I could just take decent photos with what I got, since I don't always carry my old phone everywhere.

Suggestions?

I've seen people posting tweets from public figures talking about alligators, seen other people joking about alligators. It appears to me that the issue is political, not environmental, but I don't fully get the picture.

What's going on?

No idea what this is. I guess just a regular lichen on someone's mailbox in Sydney.

Don't judge my camera skills 😰 I did what I could with my phone, I wasn't drunk

How do you guys get the image visible on the post itself? I need to open it to see it, I must be doing something wrong

AI driven Emotional Wellness Apps in particular. Good to see people noticing this

Just got some Swisse vitamin D and 3/4 of the tub is air. I've had similar experiences with other brands too.

So what's the deal?

Wouldn't it be more profitable for them to use smaller packaging? Smaller=less material cost, more stock can be shipped in the same delivery. They can still sell it at the same price if they want

I can understand the "fill with air" gimmick for things like potato chips, but not supplements. These are numbered. There's 60 pills here, you're advertising this number on the label, you can still put the same number on a smaller tub.

Why tho?

Originally asked in the TTRPG community and was suggested to ask at a printing community, so here I am. Hello.

I'm looking for someone or some place (Australia based if possible) that prints miniatures. I'd be supplying the file. I've never sent anything to 3d print and I must be awful at searching because I can't find a single site that has like a rough quote for minis. Of course I understand they would give me a different quote once I supply a file, but so far I have absolutely no clue on what to expect. $20? $150? Do you get a better deal if you print multiple items? Does it matter if they're different or all the same?

That, for starters. Next - what material should I be getting these prints on? (I hear that's resin?)

What resolution/parameters do I need to keep in mind for my files?

Is there any way to make sure the printer won't be reselling my work? (ie., printing my custom made models and selling them elsewhere)

Does anyone have any recommendations for Australia?

Thanks
