You can not understate how bad uranium mining went for the Navajo Nation. A decent chunk of their land was heavily contaminated for a long time as a result of corporate carelessness and racism. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_Rock_uranium_mill_spill

This was the US' biggest nuclear accident and one of the largest in the world (I think it's 2nd only to Chernobyl). Yet, despite happening at about the same time as Three-Mile Island, most people don't know about it.

Stimky yeen, get out of the washing machine; you'll get all the clothes dirty!

It's blowing my mind how effective it is. Out of all the things to get offended by, that's one of the last things I would have expected.

I wonder how many of the people getting offended by being called "weird" are heavily closeted about something; and being called weird scares them because they think they're being outed.

Nooooo, 4chan has a serious soft-spot for animals. They will absolutely find you and ruin your life if they think you're abusing them.

Have you ever heard of the "time cube"? Their posts are kinda like that.

This has got to be a case of a preventative patent and not something that'll actually see production. Like, there's just no way the people at Ford are dumb enough to look at this and unironically think it's a good idea. They'd probably lose a quarter of their customer base if they start rolling it out.

Oh, some more differences vs New Horizons:

  • no autosaves and Resetti will chew you out if you reset/quit without saving (New Horizons added autosaves and almost entirely removed Resetti).

  • time travelling back in time relative to your last save will also trigger Resetti.

  • playable NES games. They can be hard to find, but you can play them if you get any (iirc you can also transfer the roms to your GBA/GBA SP to play on-the-go)

  • home customization is still a thing in the original; however you only have a max of 3 rooms (2nd floor, 1st floor, basement). However, you can't customize your basement floor or walls and the basement won't count towards your HHA score.

  • no "cloud" storage, all storage is in furniture items, which have a max capacity of 3 non-furniture items (clothes, tickets, flooring and walls are fine, but not furniture). This is what the basement is for. (It's actually kinda fascinating how furniture storage works, but I won't get into that unless you're interested)

  • maximum of 15 villagers instead of 10.

  • you can ask villagers if they have any chores for you; this is actually a great option and I'm annoyed they removed it because it means you don't have to repeatedly spam villager dialog with the hope they'll eventually give you a task.

  • there's an island you can visit with another house which you can use as storage if you want. However, it's a bit difficult to access on emulators because you can only get to it if you have a GBA connected, so you have to either emulate a connected GBA or use gecko/AR code to permanently enable Kapp'n.

  • no town hall

  • there are cops (they don't really do anything except tell you if there are any ~~free~~ lost items in the lost-and-found or if there are any upcoming events).

  • Tom Nook is the only real vendor, as afaik Mable and Able only sell custom designs. Additionally, instead of Redd, it's Tom Nook who occasionally sells artwork for the museum.

There are probably others I'm forgetting, but that's kinda the main gist of it.

Yeah, I mean, imo the comic makes it pretty clear that he's not mad about her wanting to use a different name, but instead he's mad about why she's using a different name (because he thinks she's being pretentious). I understand why Everett is mad and I can sympathize with him because pretentious people can be annoying as shit.

That said, while I can sympathize with Everett, I can also understand why some people might find it kinda offensive or concerning because it implies that Everett (and by extension, other people) have the right to judge whether or not your decision to change your preferred name is valid.

However, one should remember that this was the turn of the 20th century; most people didn't know that trans people were a thing and externally, there wasn't much that separated a trans woman from, say, a male crossdresser (I highly doubt stuff like HRT or GRS existed yet, or at the very least, that doctors who were aware and willing to carry out those procedures were very rare). As such, the idea of changing a base aspect of your identity was mainly a social thing imposed on you by the government and/or your peers (nicknames, marriage, academic/military titles, etc) and not something you picked yourself.^1^

In other words, I think this comic isn't a great indicator of how Everett would actually react to someone who's trans. If anything, I think it's more likely that Everett would be supportive of trans people who are nice, begrudgingly look the other way if a trans person was getting in people's faces about their identity^2^ while grumbling something about "they're being an asshole but I don't know if I can blame them, all things considering", and completely destroy people who get pissy about trans people.

(Also, my personal head canon is that there are two, identical-twin Everetts: Everett True and Everett False. Everett True is the one who holds progressive views (or is shown to be progressive for the time), while Everett False is the one who holds views we consider to be offensive today. Why? It helps explain his wildly varying or contradictory views while also creating a sort-of meta game where you try to figure out if you're seeing Everett True or Everett False. Also, Everett False is absolutely a bad actor hired by regressives to defame and slander Everett True for his progressive views and strong beliefs in social justice.)

^1^ Remember how picking your own nickname used to be seen as fairly cringy unless it was a simple shortening of your real name? You don't pick nicknames, friends do.

^2^ Guys, listen, it happens, they exist, and they're just as valid as anyone else. Sometimes it's just the result of a misunderstanding, stress, and/or frayed nerves; but that doesn't mean they're not assholes for jumping down people's throats. To be clear, I'm referring to the people who shoot first, ask questions later; and NOT people who are simply trying to correct mistakes or fight people being intentionally transphobic.

Edit: what I'm trying to say is that there are comics where Everett is a legitimate PoS, I'm just not sure if this is really one of them.

I haven't played City Folk, Wild World or New Leaf, however my impression is that the GC/N64 version is the only one where the villagers can be actually hostile to you. One of the biggest differences aside from personality, is that you have very little freedom when it comes to village customization. You can basically plant or cut down trees or flowers, and that's about it.

Note: there are like, 4 different versions of the OG animal crossing, the international GameCube release is the only one with an English translation.

I think he's the closest we've gotten to a real-life Thumb-Thumb
