I didn’t disagree with their clarification of what they meant.

Isn't the clarification of what they meant, also the exact same thing as what they originally said? They clarified what they meant by what they said, not by the context that you think they didn't provide in the original text, so in my eyes they did say the same thing as what they clarified to you. You just didn't seem to understand the original text, when in it, they specifically said they wanted to know what Linux distro would work best based on specs for gaming... Which brings us back to your original reply to OP. Why did you say "If you have to ask someone else whether you should switch then you should not switch."? Because the only reason I can find, is if you misunderstood and thought they were asking if they should switch to Linux in a general sense, rather then specifically based on their specs for gaming. Many people downvoted your comment including myself (because I felt you were misunderstanding OP's question), and I think most other downvoters did so for the same reason... so it would be good to know if we just misunderstood your point. But it doesn't seem so when OP had to clarify to you what they meant and everyone else commenting already seemed to get it.

/s to make a point

I don't get what you mean. I know what /s means but I'm very confused what you're trying to say. That "I disagree" what sarcastic?

[–] MoogMuskie@lemmy.zip 0 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I did not tell OP that I disagreed with them, you misunderstood.

Didn't you?... Did I?... What's this then?:

You (rah):

If you have to ask someone else whether you should switch then you should not switch.

OP (WIZARD POPE):

I am asking if my hardware will enable me to have a good experience since I know nvidia has issues on linux. (Note: Exactly what I thought OP was asking)

You (rah):

Your post doesn’t ask that.

OP (WIZARD POPE):

The main text kinda does. Maybe I worded it a bid badly.

You (rah):

I disagree.

Please explain to me what part of the two-word sentence "I disagree" is not you disagreeing.

I haven’t commented on what they meant, only on what they said.

Yes, and you wouldn't have commented on what they said if you didn't first interpret what you thought they meant. OP clarified to you what they meant, and you disagreed with them, that they meant what they said they meant, which is what was so stupid about your "I disagree" response. I don't see what's so difficult to understand for you.

Correction: Switch 2 Back-compat is not emulation. It is a compatibility layer in the same vein that the Steam Deck runs Windows games despite running on Linux.

Fine, I'll add to my sentence for clarification, but (no offense) it should be obvious I'm referring to gaming since the whole topic is about... gaming on Linux.

They’re asking based on their specs whether Linux will run fine for them, with Gaming.

The title was "Thinking of switching my gaming desktop to Linux. Should I?" In the post, they said:

My main question now is just what distro works best for gaming (considering my specs).

So therefore they're asking whether they should switch to Linux (for gaming) based on their specs. OP even told you that's what they were saying, but you said "I disagree"...

You can't with any sound reasoning disagree that OP asked something, when not only is there the OG post as proof, but they also told you (in implication) that you misunderstood. OP knows what they meant by what they said - you can't tell them they don't know what they meant, when they're literally the person who said it. I get it that you're having a hard time understanding how what they said, means what they said it does, but you're allowed to accept that you misunderstood. You're allowed to be wrong.

This is why I personally think Bazzite should only be installed on devices you intend to only game on, especially if you have any intention of learning any more about Linux than the absolute basics. It'll be fine for a while for beginners, but you're bound to bump into some things that are a hassle to install and/or keep updated. Perfect examples being for consolafying a PC for playing on a living room TV, or installing it on a handheld PC (Steam Deck etc.)

They're asking based on their specs whether Linux will run fine for them. Not whether they should switch based on usability. Having to ask if your specs can run Linux fine is not a reason not to switch.

I couldn't remember if I was connected to Wi-Fi or not on the phone when I made the post, so I made another post to another game page on the phone (while connected to Wi-Fi) and it worked just fine.

My PC is also connected to the same Wi-Fi as you'd expect.

What I did notice strangely, is that I can make comments on my PC, I just can't make posts. When I make a comment, I appear to have the same issue where it endlessly says "Please Wait. Processing...". Except, if I actually go back to the post I tried to comment on and refresh the page, my comment successfully appears. It just doesn't work that way when making my own post for some reason.

Someone here suggested I check the browser console for errors. I checked, and I get multiple errors in LibreWolf.

That's a good idea. I gave it a try with another post (because I had another post I wanted to make on GOG) and I do get an error in the console when I press post.

I have no idea what to make of the information though. Do you?

Edit: Oh, this screenshot is in LibreWolf by the way (Firefox), the original screenshot in the post was on Brave Browser (Chromium). I forgot I was using a different browser to the original screenshot.

I've not made many posts to GOG overall, but I've definitely made posts with links in it before and I've been fine.

Everything on the PC is completely up-to-date and I even tried restarting it. I just tested it now, but for some reason I'm able to post this exact post on my phone from the Brave browser.

I didn't have an ad-blocker on Firefox and it still didn't work. I decided to disable Ublock Origin on Floorp (a Firefox fork) and it didn't help anything. All my browsers are on the latest version. I also restarted the system just in case, but still nothing.

... Okay, I just tried posting it from Brave browser on my phone and it worked just fine. Honestly have no idea why it doesn't work on the PC.

Australia certainly shouldn't be blocked, and I'm not using a VPN currently either.

As you can see in the screenshot, all it says after pressing the post button is "Please wait. Processing...". It never ever proceeds past this point, no matter what web browser I use. I've tried all the browsers I use: LibreWolf, Mullvad, Floorp, Firefox and Brave. None of them let me post on the community forums. I tried this 2 or 3 days ago too; same problem. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Something that a lot of you might find really cool: With Nintendo's recent update for the Switch, you can now share most digital games (and DLC) with your friends/family using "Virtual Game Cards". Essentially, you're lending a digital copy of your game to your friends, and lose access to it yourself, for the duration that your friend is borrowing it.

One of the very first things I wondered was if you could share discontinued games that have been delisted. I personally have 2 or 3 of such games myself, including the legacy version of Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition, which never got a physical release and was delisted from the eShop in 2018 when the bedrock version replaced it.

I went to my friends house today to let him borrow a game, and we decided to test it out. I can confirm that it works! My friend has been wishing he could play the legacy version on Switch for years, and he can now finally do so because I was able to lend my digital game to him!

The lending is for 2 weeks, and the game will be automatically returned to me once the time is up. At that point, I will have to meet up with him in person again if he wants to continue borrowing the game.

It's just so out of context, like what is this trying to say about the game? 😆

Picked up this funny goofy looking 1997 pet simulator. Has anyone here played it before?

Looks like the kind of obscure game you'd see people asking on r/tipofmyjoystick 😆

Pretty crazy this came out in 2003 and this secret was only just found now.

It's finally here -- a small 4:3 handheld that packs a punch AND with a high-resolution AMOLED display. Let's discuss all the reasons why I love the Retroid Pocket Mini, some of its promising future updates, and why it may or may not be the right handheld for you.
