There's 2 funny things about Persona 4: 1) it's so homophobic that it makes you forget about the more or less casual sexism inherent to every games Hashino writes for; 2) all its fans defending it when it comes to the aforementioned points, cuz you see, it comes from le conservative Nihon, and is quite daring for the country. Dudes, Persona 2 exists and came out in 1999...

I'm once again asking for people to play Persona 2 if they want good characters in this series (and good stories; and more than surface-level thematic exploration; and just games that aren't directed, or written, by a conservative bigot who doesn't like anything more than to dunk on LGBT folks).

Acktshully, Trails of Cold Steel 3 did it (a hundred-years old witch loli, but still), and it's a bona fide JRPG 🤓

There's quite a few: Bravely series, Octopath series, nearly every Kingdom Hearts, same with Star Ocean, Persona 5 if we just keep the dungeons and confidants, every Fire Emblem since Awakening... And it's just a short list of modern-ish games.

Damn, I'd play this JRPG! (unless it's directed by Katsura Hashino)
