Lemmy is still alpha software, thrust into the limelight by the fall of Reddit. It is still in its infancy. Reddit has had over 18 years to get it right. So it will take some time.
Prejudiced yes. Racist? No, American is not a race. And yes, I agree that to really know the USA, you need to visit many of its states, but the current state of the country doesn't invite many of them to visit.
As a Canadian, the more I read these kind of news about the USA, the sadder I become about the country and feel that these social issues will never be fixed
Great read. Putin has accelerated the Ukrainification of the country. Even Russian-Ukranians are now fervent Ukrainians.
We can only hope. In my opinion, Montréal is the most European like big city in North America. And Quebec's unique culture isolates it from the rest of anglo-saxon North America.
But I have to say that's a plus. I'm on Lemmy.ca and beehaw.org is federated with my instance so I can interact with their communities. I have noticed that discussions on technology@beehaw.org are different from those on technology@lemmy.world. I think that's the beauty of Fediverse.
It's like being in a technology club in France and then visiting the technology club in Germany. They may look like the same clubs on the surface, but then you realize that these clubs have different interests and the discussions are different because the worldviews of the two clubs are different.
