Surprised no-one pitched Elite:Dangerous. Certainly a labour of love to begin with, incredibly talented sound design, first space sim to VR, truly devoted to the original material... Still going pretty strong (had a few weak years) with updates (only 2 DLC-ish major updates of which were paid) a decade later...

Privately owned (no shareholders), small team that seems to love what they're doing, they can likely go on forever. Strange how a lack of shareholders correlates with good games (/platforms, Valve!) isn't it ?

Cheers, up and running.

Had trouble installing that, but https://github.com/ryosoftware/GPhotosShim via obtainium worked perfectly. Hooks it up to gOS Gallery.

Wait, aren't landlords de facto vampires?

Cool (you''re sure no Play Services not just no Play Store? what about GMSCompatConfig?, it's reasonably innocuous, I'm just curious), in that case kill its network and profit. I couldn't do that a couple of years back, might have to re-evaluate...

As far as I know it needs Play store, Play services and GMSCompatConfig so you'll be right back where you started. You can deny those things network permissions as well, but things tend to go awry when they can't phone home, you end up having to enable and disable network on things to get other things to work. Personally I don't trust it, good as the GrapheneOS devs are, it's always a moving target.

It's pretty quick to switch users, swipe down, swipe down, tap users, tap user, enter passcode (make it short) and you're there.

Just set up a user for google crap, when you absolutely positively need it, go use camera ( or maps or whatever), when you're done, shut it down. Over time it happens less and less...

“I reject your reality & substitute my own”

I'm fine with Adam Savage's version, it's the

"I reject reality & substitute some crap someone (or something) told me"

that all too many people do nowadays, and it shits me to tears...

QMK Keychron, MX Master 3, done. Perfect linux compatibility if you care.

You'll be fine, make sure it's a x16 card (vasty majority are), stick it in your x16 slot. Make sure you have enough power, some are pretty thirsty these days (it's usually on the specs sheet for the card and on your power supply in the case)

You can also upgrade the CPU to AMD Ryzen 3000 series (e.g. 3900X, pretty cheap second hand) by upgrading the BIOS here for a nice performance uplift. Get to at least 16Gb RAM (DDR4, also cheap).

Later, you can recycle this as a home sever or swap to a motherboard that supports Ryzen 5000 series (also cheap these days), which will take all your present hardware and enable CPU upgrade to say 5800X3D to make it a gaming beast (at least for a couple of years).

Dammit, negative results are gold, pretty close to the essence of science and it's just 'not enough clickbait, fuck your career'
