The good people of the internet can't do all the reading and video watching for you - Most of have lives, but can still be bothered to look into whether we should open our mouths with some dismissive bullshit. What's your excuse?
Shunning, in those sects that still practice it, generally isn't a permanent affair, nor was is originally specified to be. The shunning isn't the problem for you and I, its that lgbtq lifestyles are usually(depends on the community - even among the amish) a "living in sin"/shunnable affair no one should have to repent or hide.
EDIT: Jesus Christ, Amish shunning for rape and icest is only six weeks, AND they forbid reporting of such crimes to law enforcement? WTF?

Noting that aiding and abetting a crime, including lying to hide another's crime, and the intimidation of witnesses and victims, are all well-established secular law, there is no grounds for how too many religious communities handle such things. Priests and Pastors should be mandatory reporters, not privileged to keep confidentiality where serious crimes are concerned, nevermind that these people are openly confessing to their entire congregations/communities.
A large amount of my outlook revolves around the notion that once you can forgive ANY human for existing, the justifications for holding much of anything against(or mistreating) any but a select (relatively)few just melt away and indulging in the notion that I myself am exceptionally horrible (self-loathing) is just vanity.
I honestly don't get how someone can come to the conclusion that ending humanity is absolutely desirable and not just skip to the step of ending themselves. That's surrendering the high ground at step one, and just because I believe they deserve to draw breath more than they do doesn't mean I won't block anyone who openly subscribes to such ideals in a heartbeat.
We got here by being horrible. I'll believe any other intelligent(or otherwise) life got so far without similar skeletons in their closets when I see it. Not them or anyone else claiming it, but like, a god's-eye-view of their entire history. Pretending we can't get over it is just an excuse for further horrors.

Starting my fourth decade on this rock. Distressingly pale... My boys are into trying to fix and upgrade the consoles & PC's they've grown up with, plus a couple old PowerPC G4 & G5 Macs I snatched up a few years ago, so we'll see where that goes.
