And that JSTOR didn't want sue him, it was the DA pursuing it. Afaik JSTOR even published the articles in question for free 3 months after he downloaded them, basically agreeing with his criticism.

I don't know it just seems too on the nose, the ancient "expand the list" joke framework, picking a word that would become unintelligible when properly censored, then using the lazy censoring, censoring the first ass but leaving the second one untouched.

I am honestly not sure if it's a joke or not, but it feels like one.

Edit: maybe I just wanted it to be a meta joke, because the "expand the list" thing has run its course for me by now. Seeing it with the censoring removed makes it less funny for me, like a minions meme or something

In my highschool German class we read Kafkas "Metamorphosis", it gave me weird dreams for weeks.

In a literary sense it's a masterpiece, simple yet intricate. The first sentence alone is genius :

"As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect".

No backstory, no explanation, the reader is left with the same confusion as the characters. Then the societal observations he weaves in are sharp yet puzzling.

I recommend it highly, but be prepared for strangeness and being left with an uneasy feeling.

I usually am annoyed by this self censoring bs but in this instance it feels like it's a meta joke on exactly this behavior.

Isn't that even argued in the episode? Like Q wanted to humble Picard when he doesn't want to accept him onto the Enterprise as a crew member and Picard criticizes his interference. Then Q says something like "You are not prepared for what awaits you". Indicating that he has other motives than his usual tricksterdom.

Q has always had a certain curiosity for humanity and his actions are always layered but in this instance I think the layers are only.hiding his intent on helping humanity/Starfleet prepare for threats bigger.than anything they have ever encountered.

And later he says something like "If you can't handle a bloody nose you should go home and hide under your bed" meaning something like "if you're out here you have to be prepared to face threats and horrors unimaginable to man."

Although I really like the analyses of the main guy; they are very sharp when Jones is rambling & deflecting.

Adding to that: yes those moments are very enjoyable, but if you listen for longer you'll notice they are around a lot and the replies of dan and Jordan are in a vacuum, they have no impact on what is being rambled about. In those depositions there is actually a professional in the room, that either stops the rambling (there is a moment where one lawyer actually does a "bapbapbap I'm talking, not you" to Alex Jones), or they just deflate all the nonsense with a short remark like "in what way was this an answer to my question" or " do you know what question you are answering right now?". Oh and one of my favorites "that's a nice opinion to have, but not an answer to my question".

I think it's formulaic objections #18 where Steven Crowders is questioned and he tries his "debate me bro" techniques a couple of times and just runs into a wall with his face first. Like, why would you try something like this with a lawyer that has been working your case for months and generally does that shit for a living, do you think there will be a "gotcha" moment, because there.will absolutely be not.

And just for entertainment formulaic objections #3 is Roger Stone being deposed by a lawyer he has been aquatinted with for decades and they absolutely HATE each other, it's just perfect. Both of them are terrible people and it's just a delight listen to them being at each other's throats, but in a legal setting. One highlight is "did you just call me a little bitch?" - "well you certainly act like one". I laughed out loud more than once during this episode.

Oh yeah, Dans analyses is what carries this show. He is at his best when he is angrily swinging his Analysis like the sword of righteousness, those moments are just perfect.

Yes, for the most part. Obviously there are heavier topics and moments that require more sensitivity but their dynamic is pretty good reflected in the BtB episodes. I can't recommend them enough but I must advise some moderation, if you take too much of that stuff in at once it becomes quite a mental load.

They have episodes titled 'Formulaic objections' which are commented versions of depositions, mainly from the sandy hook cases, but also others against characters from that universe and they are awesome. I sometimes take those as a sort of palette cleanser, because it is quite relieving to see those characters in a court setting, stripped of their usual ability to just deflect and ramble on.

Hazel says hi (infosec.pub)

European red squirrel, northern Germany.

We live right next to a park, where a tree grows partially over our balcony, so the little one can safely come and go. Over the past weeks she's gotten more curious and has been exploring every corner of the balcony, she's also gotten more comfortable with our presence.

A few days ago we were having tea outside and she joined us briefly, so we put out some hazelnuts and she returned immediately from her lookout on the tree.

First she checked from a safe distance.

She then brought the nuts into several hiding spots around and returned again, at this point she really started to muster us. She then made a big jump right on to our table, ran across it until she sat 30cm in front of my girlfriend and stared right into the camera, that's where we took the title picture.

The photo is slightly out of focus because she ran up to us so boldly, we couldn't turn the zoom down quickly enough.

After that photo we put the camera down, to enjoy the moment more, she ran around us a little bit and then retreated back to her tree.

It seems like we made a friend that day, she comes by periodically, we bought more nuts and although she is careful around us, she accepts our presence. We can move slowly and also talk normally, just fast movements makes her a little skittish.

So greetings from Hazel to all of you, we wish you and your squirrel friends a merry autumn!
