Aren't BIOS updates usually done by putting the update file on a flash drive and installing it from the BIOS? I've never heard of updating BIOS from Windows with an executable.
If you haven't used Windows in that long you might as well just get rid of it.
Not happening for me currently, but that definitely sounds like something Google would do. Good thing Firefox lets you easily change your user agent.

Can you hear your laptop's fan speed up when it's overheating? Linux on my old laptop couldn't control the fan speed so it was always overheating. When I figured out how to manually set it to maximum, it overheated much less.
Seems like an iron farm would be a better option, everything you need to build it should be easy to come by.
