I know it is meant to be a joke and we are meant to think that assuming the Reddit post is even real that it is funny the person would do that. However this is actually becoming a real problem . There's a mix of extremes happening and it has gotten to the point where a lot of younger men are in the mindset that it's basically impossible for this to happen and they are terrified of assuming and accepting the feelings. Because if they get it wrong they get called a creep ridiculed and just otherwise dragged through the dirt socially. Or at least that is the fear that they have I have doubts that it's actually that bad , it probably happens in some places but it is the fear that a lot of men in general have right now.

I've caught myself thinking that way when I end up falling for a friend. That I'm the one who's wrong for having those feelings and I should have just been happy with friendship. During that time it probably would have been not quite as bad as the comic but short of explicitly saying they love me and asking me out I would not have assumed anything was them having romantic interest in me.

The main problem is that "what it's missing" is usually "it's not literally exactly the same down to the last pixel"

99% of people that make use of Microsoft Word for work do not do anything more complex than a bulletpoint list, if even that, and would be perfectly fine with libreoffice. In fact, they would like be better off because they wouldn't be dealing with it constantly trying to force everything on to OneDrive instead of attaching it to an email properly and causing all sorts of Random Access issues or the person they sent the document can't actually access it because they aren't part of the organization and other bs in office

I live in an area where it is raining more often than not so unfortunately clothes lines are not really an option for me, though i compensated by going entirely off grid. I have enough solar and battery storage that I am completely self-sufficient. I have a heat pump dryer, heat pump hot water heater, and I still use things like a dishwasher as they do use dramatically less water than doing it by hand

I guess that's one I also forgot to put on the list heat pump hot water heater yes they are more expensive than the standard electric but they will pay for themselves pretty quickly unless you just almost never use hot water. Same for the dryer, it is indeed more expensive than a standard electric one but it will pay for itself pretty quickly with the 1/4th power used

Honestly, the majority of what you listed isn't going to make any difference in the slightest even if literally everyone did it tomorrow.

Here's a completely random non-comprehensive list of stuff that would actually be pretty impactful though.

Upgrade your dryer to a heat pump dryer , they use 1/4 the amount of electricity to do the same job if literally everyone traded their electric dryer for the heat pump dryer it would dramatically reduce energy usage and thus also result in a dramatic drop in CO2 generation from various energy generation sources. You don't have to worry about your old dryer it is made of 90% material that actually gets recycled for real just drop it off at a scrap yard.

Use your compost bin actually start separating stuff for it properly . Most people don't make use of it, if you are particular waste Company does not offer composting then simply make a compost box somewhere on your property if you can and start composting there's a lot of things that just end up in the trash that could be compostable which would be better for it the environment and reduce the burden on the waste system.

Curb the demand for forever chemicals. Replace everything in your kitchen with stainless steel or wood or glass. No plastic or Teflon just learn to preheat your pans properly and use a little bit of oil the sticking of your eggs is nothing more than a skill issue I use stainless steel and I can make fried eggs that slide around like they're on ice. And not just the pots and pans replace all of your utensils plates bowls. It creates a small surge in waste initially as you get rid of the old stuff but as long as it's going forward you never purchase the plastics again it means demand will go down.

Those are just a couple completely random things that would be fairly simple and easy to do that would actually make a pretty drastic difference if even just 40% of the population would follow through but I speak from experience when I say if you attempt to get people on board with any of these they just can't be bothered because it's a slight minor inconvenience compared to what they already do

Grid tie i fully understand being regulated heavily but man i wish i could punch and then bury alive any officials that regulated offgrid self consumption. Like fuck off its basically just a larger version of those computer battery backups you can get at bestbuy lol. Or better it's just a larger jackery battery and solar, they gonna fucking regulate those too? We can't have people being self sufficient that would be just awful

DIY install would cut the cost dramatically, the markup on labor was already fucking insane. You can get a roofer to do the install for the brackets and an electrician to certify the cabling for fraction of what solar installers want to do it.

Plus the equipment is dramatically cheaper doing it that way too. Go checkout https://signaturesolar.com/ and see how insanely larger your system could be for 70k lol.

Just as a quick example you can build a cart that is

27kW of solar input

24kW of inverter output

55kWh of storage

For about 30k then add 5k for cabling, lugs, fuses and breakers, and I'm also assuming you'll need the lug crimpers and other such tools amd 5k for the mounting hardware, unless you happen to be or be friends with a welder then you can find a steel yard and make your own mounting hardware for pretty cheap.

So tldr for 40k you can have a system that wildly outclasses that 70k one from an installer. It's not particularly difficult work to do there are a million extremely great tutorials available out there both in text and video form solar is mostly DC so it's just positive to positive negative to negative. You can always have an electrician handle the final connection to the actual breaker box of the house and it will still be dramatically cheaper than having solar installers do the whole thing

Reference links for that price

2x Solar pallet

4xWall mount battery

2xstackable 12k inverter

Humans are remarkably good at not caring about something until it affects them personally at which point it's too late to do anything about it

Mastercard is now trying to get you to give your bank/card in order to take the complaint lol had 3 reps ask. Don't give em the info they might cancel your card or some shit in retaliation

Firefox mobile has plenty of add-ons that will just remove it for you

And humans allowed capitalism to happen and have historically throughout history allowed a small handful of powerful people to take control and make everything shitty until things collapse soooooo. Capitalism is just a symptom of the disease

Oh, well that's stupid and overreaching regulation. I can only imagine what the services cost when it's forced like that probably worse than around here. Imagine not being able to install a new light circuit because you aren't a certified electrician that's nuts lol.

There was a point in my life where I was going to make my own solar batteries and I purchased around 300 21700 lithium sales to get started... Thankfully I got them from a bulk auctioner for almost nothing because I never ended up putting in the time to make more than one of the batteries as life just kept putting more important things in the way. At this point I have already said fuck it and simply purchased a large supply of premade solar batteries I did still get them from a bulk discount supplier to save some money.

The problem is that now I have a large supply of cells that I don't know what to do with them they aren't the standard 18650s so it's not quite as easy to find things that will accept them. I have found a couple decent usb-c portable power bank cases that will accept these cells and I now have like five of those and it's enough to charge pretty much any phone a good four times over which is nice but I need more uses I would like to put some flashlights in each of my vehicles to always have on hand and it would be neat if I could use these cells I've done a little bit of Googling but it seems like the options to accept this particular size is limited and I'm worried that they might be of poor quality.

Anyone got any recommendations on ones from a reputable supplier?

I finally had an area to setup the resin printer i got almost a year ago. Did initial setup, bed leveling, and set out to test with this benchmark I've seen around.

It's an elegoo saturn 2 printer, I'm using CHITUBOX basic as the slicer, all settings were the default it gave for this printer other than adding 0.5 wait time to before lift (default 0) , and bottom layer count to 8 (default 5)

I used the elegoo washing station for 10min then the curing station for 10min. There seem to be a lot of rough lines and the right side line ramp is barely visible at all. Not sure what this suggests needs adjustment and would appreciate some help getting into the correct direction.

I did do some looking around and at least it seems i should try 4 base layers only on this according to one of the places i found it hosted. Other than that I'm not sure how to clean it up more

I have been trying to look around But it seems like many of the options are either very limited for the self-hosted With a lot of options missing, have poor documentation, or don't support android.

I am attempting to find a replacement at work we are currently using Premier Wireless and I'm not at all happy with it. I don't have a lot of requirements from such a service I mainly just need to be able to have a kiosk style screen on a tablet where only the apps I want are shown, remote pushing of app installs, wifi settings, and limiting access to settings.

Does anyone know of a good self hostable solution for this?

Sometimes it makes you wonder how they manage to even find the reply button

Where is the login (lemmy.world)

I feel like I'm going insane, I can see people talking about logging in. I have seen screenshots of the login screen. And when I attempt to submit a post or something it tells me I need to be logged in to do that. But I cannot for the life of me no matter how hard I search the settings find somewhere to log in. I have tried searching for account, login, profile in the settings search and found nothing I have manually gone through every single category and cannot find anywhere to log in. I have attempted to completely uninstall and reinstall the application. This is either the most elaborate gaslighting attempt against some random asshole in history or there is something wrong with my app
