So…what does this mean.

[–] LibsEatPoop@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah, this quote is awful and Cameron is definitely an ass. You want more proof Cameron is bad? Read up about the making of the Abyss.

It doesn’t change anything about the themes expressed in the actual movie/movies, which are genuinely anti-capitalist and anti-colonialist. I like how you saw no reason to try to provide any criticism of my actual reply. Have you even seen Avatar/2?

I also don’t understand why you keep wanting to argue again and again about Avatar, which was nothing more than a small mention in my post about a completely different movie.

This para was about Avatar.

Avatar and it’s sequel have some white saviour thingies going on. Granted. And James Cameron is a definite ass.

But cmon. The series, so far, is 100% anti-colonialism and anti-capitalism. It’s a “what if the entire planet said fuck the humans who’re destroying us” type thing. The trees, the animals, and everyone whose being colonized. And if you’re a soldier or a part of the western world (to bring it to earth) the only way to redeem yourself is by joining with the oppressed and betraying your own species (ie class). Maybe Cameron will fuck it up later. But he hasn’t so far.

And anyways, this isn’t a post about the Avatar.

The Creator is a much simpler movie about the Vietnam War told via AI. It has awesome visuals (cinematography by the guy who did Dune and Batman) + a score by Hans Zimmer. And it’s CGI puts every other movie made with a budget 3x it’s own to shame. And it’s an original story (even if cliched).

I watch everything at 2x anyways lol. Sometimes I go down to 1.5x when I want to savour it.

Someone posted an AI summary earlier that got the structure of the essay correct, even if it made the content seem more superficial than it was. You can probably find it in the mod log if you want. I’d still recommended you watch just the first five minutes if you can, though.

Leftism, no matter of what type, from Marxism of the 19th century to Marxism-Leninism in the 20th, and of course the various different stripes of Anarchist movements have always been feminist. In the Communist Manifesto itself Marx and Engels talk about women's rights particularly as it relates to family, marriage and prostitution. Explicit focus was put on women's rights and issues during the Russian Revolution.

There is no successful leftist movement, no "violent capture of capital" as you call it, without addressing the unique challenges women face under our current society. Women make up 50% of the freaking proletariat.

And historically, this isn't the demographic that leverages violence well.

Just...absolute fucking nonsense. You know nothing about feminism except the sanitized version you've been fed and, worse than that, have absolutely zero curiousity and desire to learn. You seem to fucking gloat in your ignorance. Is that also what you think of the Civil Rights Movement because it was "non-violent"?

I never became a leftist to solve the Feminist, gender, or race questions for my society.

I'm going to hope you're just young and ignorant. There will be no revolution without solving "the Feminist, gender or race questions" along with the various others you have not mentioned. I'm going to stop here because otherwise I'll lose my cool. The people most oppressed under capitalism, who have the strongest reason to fight, are who you're saying "nah, I don't care about your struggles."

Just...learn a little.

I appreciate the AI summary being removed because of the way some people were taking it, but you might have been a bit too hostile. They'd edited the comment when they saw others take AI arguments seriously and as a substitute for the video, and at the bottom they'd mentioned a Men's Lib group (the good kind) that talked about similar issues. So, I don't think they were engaging in bad faith, just unfamiliar with how AI is perceived here.

[–] LibsEatPoop@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Ok. That sells me on the show lol.

[–] LibsEatPoop@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago

This is another example of the AI missing what is actually said. Please watch the actual video to get the actual argument.

[–] LibsEatPoop@hexbear.net 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's... incredibly depressing to hear.

[–] LibsEatPoop@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

If you want to critique the video, please do it after watching it, rather than taking what the AI wrote as gospel. It misses the nuances of the argument, even in what it wrote as the "thesis".
