He was old and frail though. And the American public needed to know this.

If people had realized this sooner maybe we could have had a real primary with a strong candidate that could have beaten Trump.

I feel like most slander is constructed in a way that makes it very hard to disprove. Which could mean this will just turn into pointless bickering.

However, I do hate the witch hunting that happens on here sometimes so I’ll check it out at least.

What? You mean I’ve been doing this internet thing wrong this whole time?

Someone really needs to put Bukele in his place…

Sounds cool! I’ve always had a hard time finding political spaces where I fit online as someone with very far left views but also a keen sense for practical and realistic strategy. Seems like I can pick one or the other but not both.

And the immigrants who are literally being put in camps as we speak…

That would solve it but it’s a collective action problem. First few would be harshly punished and that keeps such an idea from gaining momentum.

Also, there are millions of fascists who think this is great in California. It’s not as left as people elsewhere think it is. So getting that level of solidarity would be a challenge.

I disagree. The east coast is quite plainly the Atlantic coast, including part of the South. If you mean Northeast, just say that.

All presidents are wrong, some are useful.

Absolutely. The article suggests that tree planting in LA is impossible because it’s too built up. Complete nonsense. If we took even a small fraction of the car infrastructure and turned it to planting space, LA could have ample tree cover.

I think we were discussing western prices. Need to compare like to like.

Though, if anyone has experience with electric moto prices in Vietnam, that would be even more relevant.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago

I don’t know enough about Vietnam to speak to the transportation options there but in most parts of the world there are good low-carbon alternatives now. E-bicycles in particular are an affordable transit revolution that should be affordable to anyone who can afford a motorbike.

People who burn fossil fuels are not the poorest of the poor. The real poor are the ones who will suffer and die if we don’t get off of fossil fuels immediately.

I would personally go a lot further than this narrow policy but given the current emergency I can’t really be critical of any move in the right direction.

Hope this fits here. It's more of a skit than the usual deep-dive video essay but I found it entertaining and critical of some harmful capitalist systems :)

FYI I changed the title because the original was kind of click-baity.

An update on the classic Dept of Unauthorized Forestry video. Looks like a lot of the trees survived the grumpy HOA people after all!

I’ve got my work cut out for me. But the timing should be perfect with thanksgiving.

As promised, a more difficult nut for today!

I will give this one 3/5 difficulty.

Hint:

spoilerThis nut is named for its most common country of origin.
🌰

Answer and some fun facts about this nut:

spoilerIt's a Brazil nut! Brazil nuts are fairly unique among nuts one might commonly see in a grocery store. They are not a domesticated crop like most other nuts, and are mainly wild-harvested from the Amazon rainforest. Some have advocated this as a model of a sustainable economic activity in the rainforest, but other studies have noted that in areas where nuts are heavily harvested, the regeneration of the species is poor.
🌰

Tune in tomorrow for more nutty knowledge!

Despite their drab color, I find these quite beautiful!

I expect this one will be fairly easy, so the next one I post will be a bit harder.

Need a hint?

spoilerIt's in season right now, and is often cooked in a seasonal dish...

A conversation about adapting to sea level rise in California using nature-based solutions. Solarpunk even gets a shoutout.

An interesting overview of this CIA document which, if you’ve spent much time discussing politics on Lemmy, you’ve probably heard of. But the existence and meaning of the document is not as simple as many believe.

Gardening is not so much about following rules, says Rebecca McMackin, as it is about following rules of observation. For Ms. McMackin, the director of horticulture at the 85-acre Brooklyn Bridge Park, that means keeping in mind goals that will support wildlife in the garden, and the greater ecology.

Rather than following the common practice of planting and transplanting in spring, for instance, she suggests shifting virtually all of that activity to autumn — and not cutting back most perennials as the season winds down.
