Love Platinum, they’re the only fountain pens I can even consider using, as they’re the only ones I found that can handle my low writing volume without drying out between uses.

Yep. As long as you cap it (like with any fountain pen for that matter), they won't dry. In that regard, they're among the best at any price range not kidding. But the plastic of the cap is a on the brittle side... which may ends up hindering the tightness of the capping as it won't sit as tight. Not hate here, that's only a maybe could happen (happened to me ;), they're great.

Carrier Pigeon Network? 😅

Maybe (it could be fun) but I would first consider more readily available things.
Things like meeting people IRL and also snail mail... Those are much slower and much more limited in the number of people I can meet but 1) I don't need to meet millions of people 2) they''are also all usage that are protected by many laws, that are not constantly spied upon, and that are not 'enshitiffied' by marketing & businesses and their endless greed either ;) Edit: they're also much less prone to trolls and haters, or moronic ideas spreading: it's harder to lie in the face of someone, or to insult them than to do it safely hidden behind one's keyboard ;)

And like I said, I would use that full year of free unfiltered search to find alternatives that, by their nature I wouldn't know they exist already.

The issue here would be to think that the Internet is everything. It is not. It was not (in the past) and it will not be (in the future).
At least it won't be for as long as we're physical beings and not just some digital avatars of ourselves ;)

Use that year of unrestricted Internet in order to find... alternative to the filtered Internet and when it's time to give up on that tasty freedom, move away from the Internet completely focusing on and using only the alternative(s) I will have found?

I only ever browse social media on a PC and that’s the way it will always be. Sometimes I can’t help but feel like desktop/computer users are becoming an afterthought. Anyone else have similar feelings? 🫠

They are. This gives much better control to them of what we're doing when we're doingon 'our' phone, and much less control to us at the same time. It's a Win-Win situation... for them only. And a lose-lose for us (worse experience and much less control of it).

That's one of the reasons I refuse to use my phone to do anything... where I still have the option.

Platinum Preppy fountain pen. Often, it's less than 10$

No one needs a fountain pen to write, but writing with a fountain pen is a unique experience. Alas, many fountain pens will cost a little fortune and other will cost a large fortune (what about a 40k$ one?). The Preppy is an exception. It's not the best fountain pen but it's very decent, it's even incredibly good considering its price. For slightly more 25-30$, I would also suggest the Lamy Safari.

Beside that, I can't think of many luxury items under 20. I mean, I can think of a few useful luxury things but they cost more than 20.

How can someone prevent this from happening, for example in a tournament match?

If it's a tournament, I would consider this:

  1. Have a clear rule forbidding the use of AI and to wear AI-powered device, including glasses. With real sanctions.
  2. Have the judge check glasses (and phones and whatever) before each game.

If it's in a club, have the same rules with the sanction of expelling the cheater from the club. Temporary ban for a first time, perma ban starting with the second one.

As a chess player myself, I would also reconsider my habits, ie I may stop going to those clubs where the (stupid, literally) mentality to win at any cost would not be kept under tight control by the staff.

I don't own an android phone (and my journal is analog) but I like the idea a lot :)

Without you sharing some context it's hard to suggest anything precise. I mean, are you talking about sudden frustrations or long-lasting ones? Sudden and unexpected or constant and relentless? Caused by yourself to yourself or by other persons? Caused by some physical issue/pain?

  • Long walks. This is like magic to me. Plus it helps get in much better shape physically and mentally (better blood flow helps the brain works better or something like that).
  • Writing, sketching. Longhand with pen and paper. As far as I'm concerned, it's much slower than typing which also helps thinking slower, which helps take a step back and consider whatever the issue is.
  • The most useful tool I have: if the source of my frustration is something I can't change (that's the keyword: I must know I can't change it), I will accept it or I will ignore it if you prefer. I will forget about its existence, accept the nuisance, zap it out of my mind. It's one trick that can be learned with practice (aka with... more frustration), that's really worth it. Philosophers may refer to that practice as stoicism, but it's not exclusive to the stoics. For me it's all about my available energy and time (time I have in a day and time I have to be... alive, on this planet). I have a limited amount of energy I can spend each day, I have only 24h a day and I have a limited amount of days remaining to live. Why would I want to waste them on stuff I can't change or that will only make things worse (since I can't change them)? So, I don't waste my time with those ;)

I don’t think I ever followed r/journaling, so I’m not sure what kind of content was common.

Nowadays, they seem to share a lot of pictures of their journals. Not something I'm much interested in doing myself, but I wouldn't mind people doing that if that was what they wanted. There are also discussions I will link to from time to time (will do just that later today) because I find them interesting and would like to initiate a discussion here.

But I have subscribed here and will try to contribute where I can, though I’m more of a commenter than a poster 🙂

I was 99.9% a commenter on reddit too. Becoming a 'poster' was quite a change for me ;)

Like many I imagine: China to where I live (France), back in those days when I ordered too much useless crap online.

Welcome and there is zero need to apologize. Some people (and group of them) can be a real pain. Once you have learned how to filter them out, it's a nice place with nice people. There is no shame in blocking them, a bit like I would not let someone enter my home so they shout their nonsense into my ears, or make their mess on the carpet.

Once again, welcome ;)
